Yes Turbo-T: This is very accurate and used by many DXers world wide. Also check the info in the main body of this site.

Guys, just start monitoring that site I provided. You can not go wrong and hopefully this will lead you to REAL radio DXing. Ham Radio- heck you guys would be holly gosh darned out, if you actually experienced what you could do with a 0.5watt not 1 watt but 1/2watt with a home made handheld yagi made with pvc pipe and metal tape measure cut into certain lengths; on a handheld dual band 2 meter 70cm radio. Put a 2000plus watt CB radio to shame any day!

true...but then how would I be able to talk on 11 meter's with something like that? Plus more equipment to buy...

Thing about talking DX with a CB radio, is partly the excitement of doing something that's partly immigrant, and harms no one. Then telling others about talking 1000's of miles away on something like a CB Radio, and then trying to convince them your not lying!:laughing4:

Just about everyone knows with a HAM rig you can talk across the World, but when you do it with a CB Radio it's a different story.

Problem is CB (11 meters) is kinda like 10 meters...hit or miss. Right now it's hot but not for much longer I do not believe.

BUT...on ham....20 meters seems to always be open, 40 and 80 seem open mostly in the afternoon or at night. Which is nice b/c it means I don't need to wait for the 11 meter band to open. Plus there's not 500 KHz of space with everyone jammed in.....we can spread out and make better contacts.

I agree on the Yagi 2 M thing....though 2 M is more local and line of sight, but there's almost always 2 M repeaters open

No it is not any difference between talking such distance whether on CB Radio or Ham Radio. You should you tube what the European CB radio operators do. Having any radio (some call it old technology) prepared to work DX or Skip based on what the conditions will allow is a thrill.
Notice on the chart you will see 12m - 10m..... any time you experience skip on 11m, you best believe it is because the reports on that chart has changed from bad to poor to good. Also pay attention to the time of day or night conditions. Aim High

Around here I've noticed this week it's already died off a little bit, compared to the last couple of weeks. Still tho, CB Radio was never intended to be able to talk DX from the get-go. There's even a limit as to just how far your suppose to be able to talk "legally"...10-12 meter there's no limits...

IMO the thrill with DX on 11 meters is partly because those kind of conditions are not a everyday event, and it's not something you can count on all the time...but thats just me...Just part of the fun, not being able to do it all the time.

Very true. Depends on what you like. I enjoy working CB but not when it's difficult to get a signal out when everyone and their brother is heterodying across the band. I know what you mean about the thrill....sort like drinking alcohol before you're 21 or smoking cigarettes before you're 18. I figure it's nice that if i want to shoot skip, i don't have to wait for the 11 meter band to open.

    jessejamesdallas Thanks this.

jessejamesdallas: your logic is confusing me to the 18th power divided by the 3rd digit brought forward one decimal back! If your reasoning about 11m CB is sound and true, then I am sitting here wondering why in the H#@$ did I ever decide to leave the inconsistent 11m band and ever become a licensed (very easy and much more enjoyable) ham radio operator. If you really enjoy working voice/skip on a cb radio on 11m as you suggest; you would be much more pleased once you discovered 20m or 40m or using digital signals PSK31 to communicate digital to name a few. The purpose of the sun chart is to show you that even ham bands are not always 100% and does require a degree of effort to get your signal out especially when you are operating mobile........ 12m-10m means that naturally the 11m sits dead smack in the middle of both. If you are capable of working long distance dx/skip on 12 or 10 then chances are the same will be for 11. How the ham radio hobby has been kept a mystery from truckers/ CBers is a mystery in itself. Ham is a logical and natural progression from cb, plus the learning curve that comes with getting your license is beyond parallel to operating a mere CB. From your experience using SSB and or skip, you would be surprised at what you already know at a Technician level. If I can offer you any advice or suggestion, that would be, to get the Gordon West Technician Exam Study Guide.........To quote Allen Iverson " we're here talking about a cb one band radio, not multi band capable radios, but a cb one band radio, a one band radio, we not talking about a multiband capable radio, but a cb!":biggrin_25512: ...............oh yeah, I almost forgot to add, "Aim High", and I really mean it in this case!
