I got enough money to get my name called on channel 6, heck even match whatever is there. And money is all it takes. What I lack is the desire!!
-
Channel 6....? LOL
-
If I want to hear "bye-bye-bye-bye-bye: I'll go see the grandkids

The only thing Channel 6 is for is to see if the skip is rolling. About 2 seconds of 6 is all it takes.
mike5511, handlebar, Turbo-T and 1 other person Thank this. -
skip is pretty darn cool imo..lol

I leave one of the CBs in the house sitting on Ch 6 with the squelch turned up pretty tight during those times when I'm not actively on the air but want to listen for skip on the higher bands. I use one HF rig for the lower bands, so hearing junk start up on Ch 6 works like a propagation beacon for me. When the silliness breaks the squelch, I go in and listen around on 10 & 6 Meters

That gives me an idea of what to use that Midland 13-830 sitting in my garage for....although I have found, that hearing skip on 6 doesn't always mean the 10 M band is open.

True; but it's a good indicator that the MUF is on its way up, and 10 is likely to open up shortly after.

+1 to what she said. It's *possible* that the MUF is just barely to 27.100 and not yet up to 28.000, but having it suddenly open up there is frequently a good sign that it's trending upwards.
The "CB to monitor for openings" is actually something I read in the "50 MHz and Beyond" column in "73" about 40 years ago, about using it like a sorta-6M beacon. It often makes it at least worth checking, although the summertime 6M openings are pretty well shot for now -- this being February and all
