You think that's bad. I flew by the Elko Nevada check station while staring at my #### phone.

I assume they were closing down because there was three NHP vehicles in there and one truck was being inspected. Talk about a oh #### moment.

Som times I run scales on purpose. Only because I know them. I do not run the ones I never been through. So that's not too bad they might think you have a pre pass

I love how it is all about safety. I haul grain and am almost never less then 83000k legal like mind you (ag overweight permits) But I never understood how paying extra to haul more makes me safer. Truck is the same tires are the same but depending on the state paying them some extra cash makes me safe. Scale houses are a racket and I only know two in Memphis that I have never been able to route myself around. but then again it is a lot easier to come up with a story as to why I am off on a 2 lane with a grain hopper then pulling a box. Is it always the most economical route no. but I also know the only true way not to get your pecker bitten by a rattlesnake is not to wave it in front of a rattlesnake

I'm trying to avoid a back in the old days post, but a few years ago most scales were open 24 hours a day. Yes there were US and state highways that went around the scales on the interstate highways. Most of these routes were either prohibited or weight restricted. In some places the states actually operated a separate scale on these routes. Today you got a good chance because of budget cuts for the scale to have just a weigh master weighing wagons. With prepass now in a lot of scales unless you are over weight the chances you will even have to enter a scale is way smaller then it once was, so why do it?

At the Chesapeake Bay Bridge here in MD, trucks are supposed to use the right three lanes at the toll booth. Signs are clearly marked stating such.

Yet, some mornings when I go through there I still see the occasional illiterate knucklehead going through in one of the far left lanes, so the officers at the scale have to stop ALL traffic to pull him over.

Don't get me started about scalehouses,LOL
Virginia,Florida,Georgia (and as of late,Tennessee)have been operating their scale house like 7-11. They're always open and they never close!! And of course the Carolinas use "weigh in motion" to decide whether to pull you onto the scale or let you bypass them.
Thank goodness I haven't redlighted(yet),and I intend to keep it that way but I've been rolling heavy a few times, close to the 80K weight limit(closest I've been so far is 79,980). Lately however, some of the states have been focusing more on the car carriers(especially dualie pickup trucks pulling car transport trailers)than the full size van/reefers,etc.(Alabama and Louisiana come to mind).

You don't get enough pay to drive in a straight line so it makes lots of sense to add all sorts of miles to the route... LOL Lifestyle truckers!!

This guy I know kept telling me how he always blows the scales when there open. Roseville, Ca. I-80 east, Cottonwood, Ca. I-5, Dunsmuir I-5, and Tehachapi he said he never goes in when open. Never been chased down nothing, and I don't mean going around he says he blows right by on the interstate. Well one time I loaded 80300 put 100 gals. in at Pilot Bakersfield, and figured that Tehachapi would be closed. Had not seen that scale open for 6 months. Sign says "ALL TRUCKS MUST ENTER" so I figured I will go by this little rinky dink scale... I didn't even make it past the get on ramp of the scale and a white CHP cruiser was starting to role out to stop me. He must have been sitting in the car waiting. Lucky he didn't make me go up the hill and back down to scale. He gave me driver only inspection (passed) and said even though that scale is closed all the time be ready to stop just in case.
