Ok, I-40, you have a downgrade into Albuq, NM, not a bad one but still. Then you have Flagstaff, which is pretty decent and could have snow/ice. Then you have a decent descend into Bakersfield from Hwy 58 over Tehachapi. Not to worry about Donner, you'll get a couple warm-ups descending the sisters in Wy. and Parleys in Ut.

I guess those days are over ? Does anyone's company let them run loose ? Or is it a federal crime to veer off the company's route?

On holidays, take lots of pictures, there was some sarcasm.
Sorry, but adding hundreds of miles for no good reason is worthy of sarcasm IMO though I should probably not do that.
Bad weather on an infamous pass is something a driver should be concerned about, especially a new one.
I did link to the weather forecast though which shows good conditions through the pass.

I could understand maybe 15 or 20 miles out of route but 700???????????????? Why run harder then you have to and not get paid for it..Alot of whatifs could happen and you may get charged for those what ifs just for taking the scenic route.
Does anyone's company let them run loose ?
I route how I see fit. Never been questioned about it. Of course I would never add hundreds of unnecessary miles to a trip.

For the record: we've both done Donner in the summer. And we went way off-route just a week ago without repercussions, but due to a white-out at Elk Mountain our gamble actually saved us a day. (The company suggested route was actually longer and kinda brainless.) We know we won't get that lucky again. We come off hometime and start our run tomorrow morning. I've seen the weather report, which looks fine and I emailed it to him. I'm going to apply all the pressure I can on this.
also, our dispatcher knows that he's the one with this hang-up. (My hang-up is running on lean recap; I blow a f**king fuse!)Last edited: Dec 27, 2013
