If your told by a DOT physical that you need a sleep apnea, get a 2nd opinion. Preferably from your family Dr. Our insurance required me to go to for a DOT Physical recheck on Weds. afternoon. The Dr. at the workers comp. clinic is recommending to our insurance company (company insurance not medical) that I have a sleep apnea because I minimally meet the requirements for the test (18" neck, 50 lbs over weight, light sleeper). So this afternoon I had a 20 minute meeting with the company insurance man, I asked him to please contact my family Dr. about this. I explained that when I went to the Dr. about my light sleeping and lack of sleep, he said that while I am at the minimal stage of the requirements my issues with sleep are related to my allergies, which I take a benadryl for every night before bed and Zyrtec or Claritan during the day.

Got a call from my boss a few hours later telling me to disregard the sleep apnea test, the insurance guy spoke with my Dr. about it and is willing to defer to him.

it's a cash grab for sleep clinics. It's almost permission to print money.
