I'm thin too, but started to (trying to) use my CPAP a few months ago. Even if you aren't required to use it by your company, it'll improve your life overall.

There's a big racket in the sleep apnea market. A doctor will refer you to his buddy respitory therapist for a sleep study. They told me I needed $500 cash for the sleep study and would bill the insurance. It ended up costing me $1500. Then that RT will refer you to a certain home medical equipment business. Most home patient supplies will squeeze 3 times the cost of a CPAP from your insurance company. They'll force you to rent to own versus buying it over 13 months so they can get you for two yearly deductibles also. At least that what mine done to me through BCBS.
If you can, buy the machine off of CPAP.com. The same $2000 CPAP I bought cost $700 on there.
And Obama's method to cure the health care problems is to force everyone to buy health insurance. He needs to stop these crooks that are over charging everyone. -
Agreed. However, you do have to make sure that the CPAP machine you purchase can record usage, and in the case at Prime, can have the use record submitted through Transflow (I believe that's the service) for auditing.
The costs covered in the payment at Prime include not only the machine, but the cost of the sleep study (only in the case of it being positive,) follow-up care, and additional equipment. Something most folks don't understand about CPAP machines is that just buying the unit isn't the end of it. There will be a period that you need to deal with someone who can adjust the masks and/or recommend different kinds so that you can actually sleep with it on. There are also parts of the machine that must be replaced periodically to prevent them from harboring bacteria that will make you sick. -
it is a racket the nurse came to my house other day was here all of 10 mins. was in rush to have me sign paperwork an out the door. I got my machine over 3 yrs ago the never called or checked on things. Big deal about adjusting mask its just Velcro.

Yes, it IS a racket. But I had it explained to me not too long ago, by a sleep therapist that I know and trust. More or less, on the trust part, anyhow.
He said that since Medicare will only pay about 60 % of what their normal bill is, they have to standardize their charges so that the 60% covers their actual expense, plus profit they need to stay in business.
So if they are looking at needing 1500.00 to make any money, then they have to have a standard charge that is that 1500, plus the added percentage to exist in the business world. He told me that they used to be able to give an individual a break, if they did not have insurance. But since Medicare folks are now auditing their records, then can no longer do this. Everybody pays full price, which is inflated to cover the Medicare B.S.
I know this is not a satisfactory situation, but it is an understandable one as far as I'm concerned.
