then maybe he needs to have his doctor get with company medical to see about another study that fits his sleep patterns?

Working on that now... he has to have 30 days of compliance before anything can be done. All done by a SIM ??? card. So in the meantime he suffers as do I (while he is home) we are week 2 of this.
-
Ours goes direct from us to the company that monitors compliance.
the minimum recommended compliance standard is 70%. works out to 4 hours a night at least.
As one who is well treated for apnea, I definitely recommend giving it an honest effort. It does take a little bit of time to get used to. Faithful user and sleep sooo much better than before. -
I'm happy it works for you, I also know that the mandate for this is at best, flawed. I witnessed this first hand working at an oxygen co. in Ma. for over 20 years. My knowledge and experience with this is not negligent. Was a time I would hear complaints and serious issues, never gave it much thought until I have seen it first hand, the C pap is not the answer to all scenarios of sleep disorders.

I am happy to report that another sleep study was scheduled. Well we have our results, In the 6 hours of his sleep study he had 0 episodes. That was without the MAD(mandibular advancement device.) He is now off that infernal machine. He had a good Dr. to start. This retest confirmed what we already knew. He never had apnea to the point of needing this machine.
Things to keep in mind if you are new to this and are experiencing side effects to the point of misery. Don't ask DEMAND a retest. Know your rights. Do your home work there are ways to pass. -
I just went and completed my DOT physical a couple of weeks ago for Schneider. My neck measures 18.6", am 6'5" tall and 330 lbs. The doctor inspected my throat and asked me several questions. I was not required to do a Sleep Apnea test the doc stated due to my throat inspection and based on my answers to the questions.

I have been spreading this news on other forums, things to consider and share.
Well we have our results; In the 6 hours of his 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] sleep study he had 0 episodes. That was without the MAD (mandibular advancement device.) He is now off that infernal machine. He had a good Dr. to start. This retest confirmed what we already knew. He never had apnea to the point of needing this machine. The thing with my truck driver, He goes against the grain the industry and regulators are pushing as indicators for sleep apnea. We are very sure he is not the only one.
-He is overweight- 15lbs.
-Neck size of 18 1/2
-He snores at times
-He is a truck driver
Sleep is a funny thing, some nights are great and some are not. We all know that! So many factors come into play here. With over 75 different sleep disorders I struggle to see the reasoning behind the industry requiring its drivers comply with a hand full of devices based on one or two sleep studies and I have yet to come across any real statistics giving weight one way or the other on this in regards to safety.
Now the Dr. ( not in favor of this blanket mandate) wants to use his experience as a test case. Not everyone can benefit from CPAP use. In fact in our case was becoming a real issue, this man was seriously sleep deprived being forced to comply with its use.
So I am encouraging all out there who are having issues, side effect to the point of misery not to ask but DEMAND another sleep study.Last edited: Jul 11, 2014
