WHAT THE DARN TOOTIN SAM HILL HOLLY MOLLY STEERING WHEEL HOLDERS ANONYMOUS TYPE MEETING Are you people having. Getting proper rest is part of the job. You whip your body into shape, and if you can't handle it. This gig isn't for you. Stop it with all the congress and who knows who. Trucking is for big belly, gear grinding, getter doner's. Not these pink driving gloves sightseer's. When you graduate from holding a steering wheel to real deal Holyfield trucking. Then maybe you won't spend so much on tissue. So dry your eyes and don't be afraid to say. Trucking is for the big dawgs, and not for me. You can do it. I know you can.

What did hou all do before trucking... I was in construction and was at the job site by 5am got off around 5pm sometimes 4pm and sometimes 6pm.. get home, shower, fix dinner, do hojse work and maybe get to bed around 10pm or 11pm... and for those 12 hourse I was doing physical labor.. and we worked 6 days a week.. we usually got off early around 3pm on Saturday, but were back at it Monday at 5am...

So, driving is not that big a deal... I can only work 14 hours, that gives me 10 hours to snower, eat, clean the truck... no yard to mowe, no gutter to clean out, and etc...

I am pulling flatbed now and it is far easier than when I was doing construction...

I dont think it is the job that is the cause of driver fatigue... I think it is poor health... both physical and mentally that has most driver fatigued...

I think somebody should log on to the SLEEPERS REPORT. America doesn't keep moving when you have sleepers/breakers/time offers/home on the weekenders behind the wheel of big rigs. I'm sorry but I do feel that some people are allergic to work, and they will find every excuse on how they can't do it. Get to stepping with that mess. Save that drama for somebody's momma. Don't come on the Truckers Report with your terroristic threats of taking more breaks to accommodate the slackers who couldn't make it a week in fast food. Take a couple of Pepto sleepmore's and call me in the morning!!

Uh no, we don't. Not unless you want to see a bunch of dead bodies beside the road, and drivers in prison for murder!:biggrin_2551:

You may be right about that. OTOH, a lot of us had some problems with sleep when we first started driving. It's just the way it is.

So what is the excuse for those of us that get plenty of sleep?:biggrin_25523:

Hey AT, I understand you are having some problems. But you should be able to get used to it within a few weeks. If you can't, you may be in the wrong business.
I had some problems when I first started, but worked through it. I should note here that I spent the better part of twenty years doing rotating shifts, before coming to trucking. In fact, for about a year and a half, I worked two swing shifts, one day shift and two graveyard shifts. Sure, I had quite a bit of time off on my "weekend," but I spent most of it trying to catch up on my "sleep debt." Those two double back shifts got old in a hurry. And of course, I was also subject to call out when I was not working, or if one of my guys had a problem they were always happy to wake me up for a stupid question. . .

OP, get caught violating those HOS rules and you'll quickly see how "toothless" they are. Sleeping is something you'll have to deal with. Like the Pedigree said, if you're tired, park and rest. One thing about this thread I don't understand is drivers complaining about dispatch after only 10 hours. Only? I can't wait to get on the road after 10 hours. That's how I make money, drivers. Something else. I often don't do the 34hr reset. It's too expensive, and I don't like hanging around waiting for the clock. So I manage my trip plans to drive solid 8 1/2hrs/day, or so, get to about 66 or 67 hours in 7 days, then start rolling over that 8th day's hours. I've run 2 or 3 weeks without a reset, although it does get hard to do after a while. With no breaks in my settlements I get more out of my clocks. Last thing. You can work any number of hours in a day. You just can't drive after 14hrs of on-duty time. You can work, though. I'll say this. If you don't love work, this is going to be a tough environment for you. Company drivers get one day off for one week out.
