true, Rick. A driver shouldn't.
IF they are experiencing anything like what I described above, share that with a doctor. They will likely set up the referal.

I have it. I had no signs or symptoms of fatigue mainly because I always made sure to get 8 hours of sleep each night. My main symptom was snoring and my wife telling me I was waking up at night. I have had it since I was a teenager. The main difference is now I can easily be rested on 6 hours of sleep with the machine because the sleep is much deeper. The dreams are much better as well. I also used to have to get up every night to take a leak. That doesn't happen anymore. If people tell you you snore you should get tested.

Truth is it affects the skinny, average, and fat all the same. Some of these companys are just giving it ( lip service) as far as i,ve read on here non are actualy testing everyone.
-
Wife says I snore very loud. Then I will stop breathing all together for a min or two, then she shakes me and I start to breath again.
-
Rat.. go get tested...sheesh before she doesn't wake you up in time.....
check awake.truckersforacause.com for a confidential truck driver sleep apnea self-screening tool... take the quiz and then see what your own doctor thinks. -
I have a question...If the sleep apnea testing is still not a dot regulation and you are working on the farm that doesn't really care as long as you have a physical how can a doctor make you take a test or you lose your medical card? I can see if you were going to your company doctor and they made you but if your with a independent company that doesn't care and its not regulation how can a doctor make you do something or not pass you.

Hi there, I have apnea and am hoping to hook up with one of the training starter companies ( swift, CRE, Central ref) later this year or early next year. Is the fact that I have apnea going to affect my chances to sign up. Should I not tell unless asked?. I am working on getting a cpap machine through the insurance I currently have. I know that they have worked with other guys on this forum, but is it something frowned upon. Are we to be the new lepers LOL

If you have never been diagnosed how can you report it on the long form? In order to be disqualified you have to be diagnosed and found non-compliant. The DOT medical board is still tossing the BMI and sleep apnea thing around. One is not going to look at you at make a decision. If you volunteer information he might slap you with a conditional card.
A persons main concern should be their personal health. Sleep apnea leads to diabetes and hypothyroidism among other things. Get treated early and avoid the health deterioration. -
I'd read the forum some more on the starter companies. I think someone said companies like Schneider will work with you and get you the cpap.

Well in my past physical last month I went in and they took my BMI, neck size and done my regular physical. My BP is normal, Sugar is good, Pulse is good. It says on their window that if your bmi is higher than 37 and your neck size is bigger than 17 your automatically qualified to have to take the sleep study. He asked if I snore(No)...I had surgery a few years ago to take out my tonsils, lymph nodes. I just don't understand that they can check my bmi and say you have to do it when its not even a law yet.
