Wrong.
The cpap has a memory card in it and many have a wireless connection to directly report it to a monitoring company and your doctor.
If it's the memory card you must bring it with you to a sleep doctor to review. If you buy a old used one like I did that runs on software the doctors office doesn't have then you need to take the memory card to a medical equipment supplier and have them download the information from the card and send it to the sleep doctor. The doctor must sign off on a form you get from the DMV that says you are in compliance. Then you take that form to the DOT Medical Examination to get your one year card.
Not being in compliance with wearing the cpap is just like having high BP or high sugar. You get a 90 day card so you can get in compliance and try again.
Sleep test?

Not here. -
Where is here? My only experience is in CA and UT but it should be all the same since it's DOT and not a state rule. I could be wrong.
Also if anyone does get a used one make sure that the doctor or a medical supply company will change the information over to you. Not all will, they want you to buy a new one.tscottme Thanks this. -

Why i said with certainty is they don't have cpap police, is a driver of mine has had some sleep apnea for 20 years, doesn't use the machine he has, and still passes his medical exams, and is licensed.
We joke that if he wants a divorce, just pull it out and use it.
The noise will make his wife divorce him lol.
He sleeps great, is awake and well all day at work, doesn't crash trucks, but some quack wanted him to squander his money on a machine.
So he bought a used one cheap, showed it to the quack, and tossed it in the spare bedroom closet.Last edited: Sep 30, 2022

What I was referring to in my other posts is if you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and have told the DMV about it. Then the monitoring is required. -

A good medical examiner can screen for OSA and the sleep study thing is never brought up, my last two physicals I had such an examiner. One thing that has always bothered me about this is these people don't seem to believe a driver when they say I get good restful sleep and wake up refreshed. Here is where I am on this subject. First I don't want ANYBODY at the controls of a CMV who is not 100% mentally or physically fit to drive. I also believe someone with a REAL problem with OSA needs to be treated and follow that going forward. Here is a change I would like to see made. No medical examiner can be part of a practice that has sleep study physicians or sleep labs AND can not be associated with them in any way. A carrier should not be allowed to be in the CPAP business. If they want a driver to have one then buy the dang thing for them. The FMCSA needs to change the medical forms to have a block where it is stated the driver and the examiner agree that a sleep study requirement is NOT a law or rule. Finally, the DOT needs to adopt some simple and common sense guidelines for medical examiners. Railroad Engineers are also going through this too.
