On paper logs it used to be anything under 7 minutes you don't change your duty status since everything was in 15 minute increments. EOBR is different of course.

Yes I ran paper logs for many years, I definitely don’t miss them but I do remember them.

How long do you plan to end up waiting? If you go off duty and end up sitting there for 7 hours only 3 hours will count toward split sleeper. But if you go sleeper berth for 7 hours you’ve completed the long portion of a split sleeper break.

I believe the difference I am vaguely recalling is that in the past the full daily reset (8 or 10 hours) depending on what year it was. Originally you needed your full layover to be on one line. If I recall correctly it was changed in years past to having the ability to log up to 3hrs off duty and minimum of 7 sleeper to get the needed 10 hour reset. When it was 8 hours to reset you had to do 8 hours on one line. I do not follow it that closely now because I don’t use a sleeper and all time spent away from my rig is off duty. I do recall you could log split sleeper and do 4 off and 4 on. I ran on call occasionally with guys that logged that way and it sucked as I was always tired.

In my brief time with your employer at the Seymour DC I was questioned on that topic. The manager said Mr. Banker we see you log your entire layover as off duty and needs to be logged sleeper. I said since I am in the hotel and not the sleeper I am logging correctly. He said you know we are not paying for that hotel. I said yes I am aware of that. Other than my years running team I have slept in hotels the last 38 years and didn’t change for my 3 months with Wally. If it had been a home every couple days, day cab job I may have stayed because they were really good people to work with.tscottme Thanks this.

To sleep, watch TV, I use it when Iam in the cab and not driving, not when in the truckstop. Sitting on the edge of you bunk is sleeper, I also use it when waiting to or active being unloaded, 2 hours sleeper when being loaded or unloaded can go along way to helping you later in you day. I alway park as close as possible before load/unload apts, try to get close enought to use yard move to checkin .TurkeyCreekJackJohnson Thanks this.

You can use 7 hours for a split-sleeper. Not true a 7 hours can count as sleeper, your going to need to finish with another 3, I would use the driving time to what ever benefited me, then either do 3 or 10 what everworks best for me.

Yeah, that’s what I said. 7 hours in the sleeper would count as the long part of the split, 7 hours off duty would only count as the short part of the split.
-
Has to be 7 hours sleeper, not off duty. the 3 hours can be off duty I believe, but the 7 has to be sleeper completely.
I have done 7/3 splits many times on the Petsmart loads, elog accepts it so does CHP. Been checked never a problem so far.
Doing cement for over 10 years I ran between Tehachapi and the St Greorge area, also used splits alot, to get from ST Geo back to Overton NV to load, I would load and go to bed by McDonalds next to the grocery stores.tscottme Thanks this. -
