Mine has neither the black box electronic ballast or the other type. Just looks like a printed circuit board.... Go figure.

Check these out , http://www.solar-electric.com/12vodcbaforf.html reasonable $ and will do the job.

I'll have to check again, but that looks more like what would work in my truck. I recently bought an LED trouble light on closeout and it's been working just fine, but I'd prefer the truck's light.
Thanks! -
Within a year or 2 all t-12 florescent bulbs, are being phased out and you will only be able to buy t-8.T-8 uses 20 percent less electricity,so uncle sam is making you switch to save the environment.I've already changed the shop lights in my basement, doing my part to save the whales lol.I don't know if that applies to bulbs in RV's,but keep that in mind when replacing/repairing fixtures.,you will need different ballast and the ends that hold the pins are smaller cause the florescent light bulb is thinner.Might as well buy a whole new fixture and get it over with, the old bulbs are obsolete.

The T12 to T8 change only takes a ballast change not the bulb sockets, they're both spaced the same.

This thread has prompted me to take my light apart. If you drill out the rivets there is a ballast on the circuit board it has to be removed with a soldering iron to remove.
The original poster mentioned that his light was at the rear of the sleeper and may be different than mine...its at the front, but I found some 20 inch LED lightbars that I think will replace the factory light and be even better, they're about $40 each, im going to call that company Mon or Tues and find out about them.
I'm too cheap to pay $200...actually $220 w tax for a light too. -
Mine died in about 2004... I don't miss it.

I got an LED touble light bar. It's got its own batteries so you can use it plugged in or not. It's got a hook on one end and I rigged it where it works great. Cost was $17 on closeout at our local farm store.
