Where drivers get into trouble is claiming for instance sleeper in a crew cab, instead of off duty. You also do not have to answer any of there questions. Drivers need to learn to shut up, stop volunteering information to DOT, they are not necessarily your friends, they are there to take your money, put you out of service or take you to jail. It the job. If you the driver pays for the hotel that does not necessarily make the hotel bill supporting documents and your wise to not carry it.
I keep most all my paperwork in a USPS / Next Day Air Prepaid envelope, with and address label preprinted by the company, all I have to do is seal it, and a cop does not have the athority to open it without a warrant. Everything except actual shipping docs like BOL's.
