If you are on I81 in VA and can't find anywhere to park you can usually find somewhere off the interstate a few miles oor.
Like on 460 going east from Roanoke about 10 miles there is a truckstop that doesn't usually get full at night and before getting that far there are several shopping centers that will have totally empty parking lots until the morning.Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this. -
On a city street it's a parking ticket. On the interstate system, which the ramps are part of, you should count your blessings you didn't get cited for reckless operation of a commercial vehicle. It's well known that Virginia have a hard target enforcement policy of trucks parking on ramps.joshuapowell61, Studebaker Hawk, Sirscrapntruckalot and 1 other person Thank this.

Sorry officer the truck is broke down do to equipment not functioning properly, for the safety of others on the road, including yourself, this truck wont move until the equipment is properly functioning.
-
What happens when the officer then calls a tow for you?
joshuapowell61, Studebaker Hawk, Tall Mike and 4 others Thank this. -
Then he wants to no what's wrong and why comes are not out. Then he calls for a state tow cause you can only be there so long. Although it might be 24 hours so youd be gone by time elapsed. But an additional ticket for something. Cause they make up cover it all laws for tickets.joshuapowell61 Thanks this.

Do cops give tickets for parking on a ramp at rest areas? Every single day I see trucks lined up on rest area ramps and have never seen a cop handing out tickets. I've done it many times without issues. Maybe I'm lucky? Or maybe this is only a problem in Virginia.

Depends on the state and the rest area.
For what it’s worth. With good trip planning you can avoid parking on ramps. Sometimes it means you shut down much earlier than you would like. And sometimes the delivery might need to be rescheduled but never in my career have I parked on a ramp unless the truck was broke down or the occasional middle of the night pee break.alds, Studebaker Hawk, spyder7723 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Exactly right. There is no excuse for parking on a ramp. And it's even easier today to make sure you have parking with all the reserve parking ot there. If I can run permit loads with all the travel restrictions and find parking, there is zero excuse for you guys pulling legal pads parking on the shoulder.Snailexpress, Savor the Flavor, ZVar and 1 other person Thank this.

Unless you had every intention to get off duty sooner but the boss is trying to push you to drive 2 more hours right on into the "good luck finding parking" hours after the ball was dropped by dispatch (that's a whole nother movie). I could have sworn I was gonna miss being regional otr. It's been a few weeks and all I can remember was how miserable I was
