Virginia is one of the toughest on traffic enforcement, period. Traffic tickets are a large part of the states economy and they literally boast about it. I see them all the time hiding in the bushes and the woods off the shoulders just looking to nail someone, anyone. I'm always on my P's and Q's going through that state just because I know they are itching to write a ticket and they LOVE those DOT inspections. It's like they see $$$ soon as they see an unmarked trailer and they'll make sure you know about the moisture they found on the power steering line.

Two things are required when traveling through Virginia. Your logbook and your checkbook.

No problem. There's probably half as many rest areas now as there were 10 years ago. Next excuse...

Really? Trip planning? You can plan all you want, it never works just the way you like. And try it up here. Where places to park are 4 hours apart from each other.

And I can remember many many years ago parking on on ramps all the time. Never got bothered. And ppl payed attention and didn’t run into the back of you looking for a pay day.

I won’t disagree about traffic enforcement, although a major part of the ticketing comes from local departments camping the interstate for revenue as opposed to the state (not that the state doesn’t contribute). But in my experience I’ve found Virginia to be one of the more lenient DOT enforcement states. One of the few I know of that regularly allows you fix overweight axles and go on your way without ticketing. I really only see them bothering junk in the scales unless it’s a blitz week

Why did you quote me? I didn't say anything about trip planning.

Yes you did, you replied to my comment about trip planning to another member. Next excuse? Not making excuses at all. Not everyone runs interstates with truck stops ever 30 miles.

Assuming you run in the lower 48, you can always trip plan your route and know where you will be stopping. 2 lane or interstate doesn't matter.

Then you’re assuming wrong, and I beg to differ even running the lower 48, which I also do. Great Lakes area. When you get into northern Minnesota, and the UP of Michigan, places to stop and park are few and far between. Hell, even around bottom of Lake Michigan, lower Chicago, Gary, etc etc, parking at night can be difficult to come by. You can plan to stop anywhere you like to try and stay legal, doesn’t always mean your plan is gonna work. And if anyone says their plan always works out, then they are a super trucker! Likely wearing leather fingerless gloves too.
