Very important to black out your room as much as possible. Keep it cool as well, especially this time of year; we don't have central air in our house, but we do have window air conditioners in each bedroom. Sleep aids don't work well for me, but I've found a couple things that work pretty well, I use my phone or my laptop with a portable external speaker (I try to shield the light from them as well): sleepwithmepodcast.com (you can also find it on YouTube) Also on YouTube, search for "sleep music", you'll find a lot of ambient music on there, it's designed to relax you, and it definitely helps if background noise keeps you awake (kids, neighborhood, etc). This one is my favorite:
It takes a couple of days to flip a human from day sleep to night sleep. Flipping within 24 hours interferes with your natural bio clock that is built into all humans. Purple nyquil has alcohol in it, I use it for that reason, but do not have that stuff in the truck or inside of you outside of your house. And it wears off in a few days or nights anyhow. It's really difficult when you have a home with wife and or kids etc. There is usually a need for a serious talk to them that when the special sleep room door is shut it needs to stay shut unless there is a home invasion or actual fire. I have become a sort of warrior advocating awake time understanding and it's destructive effects on flip shift sleeping day or night on call by bosses or Log laws in hours. We don't get to have everything in life and must pay a price. I say don't let yourself get drowsy and kill or hurt someone.
There are also products like Tylenol PM or the Walmart Equate brand or Advil has one out. They have benadryl and tylenol or generic brand in them. I can take a 1/2 one now and it works, vs years ago and it took more.
This may seem crude, but watching a little porn and doing what comes naturally helps me pass out right away...
@Lepton1 figured you might have some input on this topic. @KD5AXG might be some good info for you here as well.
If you have Wi-Fi in your house, it shouldn't be a problem. I checked into it, looks like you can actually purchase a download on iTunes and Amazon.
Ok, I have a few apps that have different sounds too... Wind, waves, leaves, etc. I will search iTunes for that one.
