In 3 yrs I've only moved mine once. its a nice option but especially pullin flat you can judge how the weights sitting. I like the option so if I ever need it I can adjust.

A friend of mine's fifth wheel failed recently on his WS and couldn't be rebuilt. He was under load and had to have one next day air'ed from Memphis to Cali. I would have just bought a used one personally, but it was a grand to fly that sucker in.

Go with the slider, I have mine positioned so that in the far forward position, it is centered on the drives. Have hauled some 14 - 15 ft wide loads on a flat and a step and had to slide the 5th back so I had room to turn without getting into my vault. Even if you do not slide very often, the ability to slide can be priceless.

Personally would not like a truck without a slider. If you know what you are doing and how to slide, it will sometimes make a world of difference.

As far as steer axle weight, I cannot get over 11700# with a cat in a 379 with a 270 in wb, but have scales on truck and trailer. Just thoughts from a old fart...........

W900 I've never gotten over 11000 on the steers, my short nose set forward axle western star wouldn't go to 12000 unless at 34000+ on drives
