A heavy haul company not far from here have a truck imported from England and it has a torque converter in front of a 10 spd road ranger they said it works well and thats with 350 tonne loads.
You could put it in any gear you like and just stand on it,build the torque converter to come in at the RPM you want.
Slipper clutch

I've always wondered if that was possible...
Would make for some interesting setups for the truck drags -

I will try to get some info for you haven't seen it around for a while.
It was a Scamell with a 400hp Cummins it used to do the pushing and the back of the loads, sounded like any normal truck going down the road just when it started off there was no lugging built RPMs to about 1500 and drove off and then changed gears normally.
It was a factory fit so there must be some info somewhere, give us a few days and post back. -
Car dragracers with slipper clutches don't use clutch when shifting. Could be done with Fuller also but don't know how fast. Propably needs modified dog rings for faster shifting.
Allisons should take the power with modifications like raised line pressure. They are used in heavy haulers with high hp engines where manuals are too weak. -

Have looked into the torque converter thing a bit more but not having to much luck getting any info.
Found a heavy haul company that have had 3 of there trucks fitted with a converter and still retained there clutch they have a CL 610hp Mack,Dart KTA Cummins and a C501 Kenworth with a C15.
Know one could tell me who or where the job was done but there must be some info out there somewhere.DDS Thanks this. -
