I used to be a member of our local volunteer fire dept and did a bunch of vehicle rescue extrications. Being a truck driver helped me when it came to scene safety. More than once I sent a State Trooper back a 1/2 mile or more to sit and provide us protection on a blind hill or corner. Luckily, most of them were professional enough that they gladly did it for us. Sometimes I'd just send a junior member on foot with an armload of flares to light up. It kills me to watch videos of trucks and cars slamming into accidents that have a cop at them in a blind area.

I'm surprised the cop didn't think of that.
