familiar? nothing familiar about me! I run in cogneto. all the time. ever have one of those moments where you have an epiphany thought? today was my day. got to where I was going to unload. dropped trailer and bobtailed in to see how to get there. lets just say it was ruff just bobtailing. called my contact and told him aint no way! with out some spotters to watch traffic. he said wouldn't be any one at jobsite until Monday. said layover pay because this was an asap load. about an hour later it hit me. didn't need any spotters. but ended up backing up 3/4 of a mile after unloading in the street. pretty proud of myself didnt have to stop and pull up once while backing up. the whole time only seen two cars.( it was in the boondock way back in the boondocks!!) needless to say the customer was tickeled!

I don't normally talk about rates. but today really burned me up. an agent I have a truck on with called me with a load for the truck. from nc to wa. 75000lb load 2780 miles for $4.02 per mile. when I said way to cheap he told me I was to stuck up for what I want to be paid. stuck up it is then. at least im not desperate! said his guys do it all the time. I guess he better call one of (his guys then).
passingthru69 Thanks this. -
Must of been a spot bid out of Deere.
The rates out of there have been in the toliet for the last several years now....JDP Thanks this. -
Some people are being stupid for what they're cutting rates to just to be working right now. Some of the crap going on makes no sense whatsoever
passingthru69 Thanks this. -
One of my regular customers just learned the hard way (again) why cheapest isn't always best.
$4-million laying on it's side, $16,000 crane rental to get it righted, $??? to fix what got tore up, to save a couple of bucks on the rate. Not sure how much in down time for their customer that is waiting on that particular piece of equipment so they can put their's back to work making money.
Shame is it will be a temporary lesson for them & then it will be back to school for another hard lesson for them.Last edited: Jun 8, 2015

All we have to do is everyone stop driving.
-
I've just about stopped driving. I've only run like 20,000 miles since I can back to work the end of Feb. And more than half has been dead head miles, because I refuse to run cheap crap....

I'm a company slave it makes me wonder thou what a company like leavitts with 15 8 axle trucks needs to haul the load . I haul mostly t joists beams lumber and steel from nucor
-
I'm a company slave but hearing the o/o talk about money makes me kind of curious what my company needs to haul a load we have 15 heavy haul trucks I mostly haul t joist, beams ,steal from nucor or lumber it would bug me if their under cutting o/o by alot but wouldn't surprise me I guess.

The truck has been parked since mid-April, I'm paid up for the year+ on the loads I have done (at a decent rate), so no worries right now. Being an IC I don't have to keep the wheels turning no matter what and use cash reserves to pay drivers or make the monthly nut.
I did get a call from one of my customers that knows I have CDL/CCO wanting to know if I wanted to temp fill in for one of their big AT operators. I didn't jump up & get my hard hat & vest- the money wasn't even close for that. It's not just trucking, I think a lot of stuff is underbid right now to get the job and make cash flow.
