All I know is we run above 75k most of the time. I run 65 mph all the time, even in 55 zones, CA, WA, OR, whatever, and never slow down and will get a green prepass light or bypass sign 9 out of 10 times. Those are my facts.
That said ... I often have to slow down approaching scales or weigh plates because ... well, others force me to so as to not run into their 50-55 MPH butt

Maybe they think there's a speed camera or radar set up? Either way there's no need to slow down that's for sure.
-
Ohh no, weigh station! Better do 40mph so I don't look suspicious.
gillz107 Thanks this. -
You just described me to a "T". Well, 'cept for the cut off muscle shirt, and the slammin' on the brakes. Thing is, though, that when I pass you and you're doin' 65, I'm not tryin' to show you or anybody else how big a man I am. I'm just tryin' to get there. I've got a job to do.
Fact is, I'm honestly not thinkin' bout you at all. -
I refer to that as the accordion effect.fargonaz and scottied67 Thank this.

Often it is to "give the space cushion" so you dont piggyback the other truck. Also it is to "give the illusion",that youre not running hard, speeding and it doesnt "bother you a bit".,to pull in(nothing to hide).Once you get to the bottom of LA center hill, you Put your Foot in it again...until you get to the scale Southbound mile 46.Now you slow down(because Barney Fife) is stalking around. Then you hammer the gas (race the trucks up the hills. Now youre good till Centralia(watch out more cops).I know the routine.JMOJReding Thanks this.

That's a shame. My family and I are forced to share the roads with you....you should (in some form or fashion) be thinking about everyone on the road. This isn't YOUR world alone.
Getting darn tired of this narcissistic mind-set. -
I don't think that's what he meant. I don't do what I do to elicit a thought or opinion from any other driver. I have a job to do, and I'm doing it. If you think everyone around you cares what you think or feel about what they are doing, who's the narcissist?
-
There are quite a few reasons I slow down. I am hazmat, speed sensors, cameras, traffic ahead, etc. But also because I am watching trucks coming out of the station and I want to give them a chance to merge back onto the highway safely. It's not all about me, me, me...
BUMBACLADWAR and JReding Thank this. -
Turnabout's fair play, I don't think he wants anyone to concern themselves with what he thinks or feels, I think that he would just like that all of us, including you, me, himself, and every other driver here keep in mind the safety of those around us. This forum is full of good reminders of our responsibility to drive safely, every day, not just for our own safety but the safety of those around us on the roads. I am responsible to drive to the best of my ability to hopefully prevent the possibility of my being responsible for injuring the family in the car next to me, or the fellow driver on the other side.
None of us is perfect here, and opinions vary, but I would hope we're all on the same page regarding safety, and not just "hammer down, gotta get that paycheck, get outta my way"...Last edited: Jun 22, 2017
