    Seriously....to help you...
Some try to make a big deal out of pulling the latch on the fifth wheel.
If it isn't easy to pull. You need to get in the tractor and back it just a touch. Enough to take the strain off the latch. It should be easy then.
On the other hand. If you want to make sure some idiot can't come by and pull that fifth wheel when you're sleeping in the cab. When you park. Set the trailer brakes. Then pull forward against the trailer and set the truck brakes. Nobody but nobody has the strength to pull that latch.

The pre-trip was not a dig just pointing out an advantage, having a rod with a hook on the end wasn't a dig, again an advantage to be thought of in a situation that could be a disadvantage. Shouldn't get upset before you know what you're mad about.

I say go for it. I've seen a few short women running a rig no problem. Women have the same mentality "generally" with motorcycles. You rarely see one running a "larger" bike, but I assure, there are women running Road Kinds, and liter bikes. I've seen it firsthand. By the way, I'm not sure if it's been mentioned because I didn't go the extra mile and read EVERY post, but I did see the 5th wheel latch. If you have problems accessing it due to stature, get a "5th wheel latch puller" I've never used one, but they don't appear to be expensive and I've seen folks use em from time to time. Alright, that's it, carry on.

A lot of folks won't be respectful until they think you deserve respect. Truckers earn each others' respect, it doesn't happen automatically.

Doesn't get anymore factual than that. Also, if that's the case and you run a cb OP, keep that knob in the OFF position when you park for the night. It'll do you better in the long run.
