I good thing is the Nta 370 and 420 used the same cam as the Ntc350. It was just timed differently. Some were installed with an offset key and some were shimmed at the followers. They had the Holset turbos instead of the Cummins ones and used the same Jakes. The bad is pistons were different and I don’t believe have been available since the n14 era. Waterpumps are rare and nothing comes up online anywhere for them. Marine and specialty Cummins parts suppliers may still have a source if Cummins themselves don’t. Injectors were around $450 each at one time. That is why so many got remaned or overhauled back to NTC 350’s or 400’s. Just simple and easy and reliable. Cummins didn’t help matters much by dropping support for them after the warranty periods were up by the mid 80’s.

It sounds like to me, this engine has done been converted to an NTC. I guess the only way to verify if it’s a 350 or 400, is to pull the pump and check the pressure?

But then there were a boat load of S/C factory rebuilds updated around the BC350 inception. They were short on core engines.
Maybe someone can recall better than me. They had a name for them.
Small cam reman with bc external part.
I'll think of it in a bit.
@OLDSKOOLERnWV. help, I know you know.OLDSKOOLERnWV and 650cat425 Thank this. -
Was helping a guy on his SC Cummins Saturday.
That number you found behind the air compressor on the block is the engine serial number.
What the engine is and what it was may be 2 different things.... decode the serial number, and decode the number in the tag on the pump.
Steves 1975 A model KW has a door tag listing the engine as a 290. But after calling the pump shop and giving the calibration number on the pump, I found his engine has been setup as a 350 which explained the after cooler.
Look at the tag on the pump and call your local pump shop or even Cummins, they will tell you what it is set up as. And the number on the block will tell what it started out as.....

Beating my head too trying to remember the name......650cat425 and jamespmack Thank this. -
To be more clear.....
When I called Cummins about Steve’s engine, they said it came without a after cooler, that’s why I said it being converted to a 350 explained the after cooler....SmallPackage, 650cat425 and jamespmack Thank this. -
