A lot of places want the actual WEIGHT of the TRACTOR loaded , driver , STUFF and TANKS full and base their loading of the trailer on that.

So how much more money you making for hauling all that extra freight, I'm sure your rates went up?American-Trucker Thanks this.

Well first, I don't have one of those 'lil guys...
However, as part of the deal for changing the equipment spec, this shipper added about 300 loads a week (at least) out of their various locations. So... it may not have increased rates on these loads, but it increased the opportunity to score one. They paid pretty well in the first place. Sales also went back and asked for a rate increase on some of the lighter loads as well - and got it. So yeah, we got increased load counts, and some loads with increased rates. They got less shipments overall. -
That's not what he was asking....are YOU the lease op getting paid more......no your just putting more wear and tear on your truck and burning more fuel for no extra money that's sounds real smart to me lol

Well for those who don't understand English...
I DON'T HAVE ONE OF THOSE LITTLE TRUCKS. THEREFORE I CANNOT PULL A LOAD THAT HEAVY. THAT MEANS THERE IS NO EXTRA WEAR AND TEAR ON MY TRACTOR.
And yeah, I am benefiting from higher rates at this shipper and most of the other places we haul out of too. -
This is where so many companies have a lack of common sense. They have all them lightweight trucks to haul more weight, they won't last, they're not going to stand up to all the wear and tear because they are built so cheap.
In the end with all the break downs, repairs and having to replace trucks sooner, they probably won't make much if any more money.
Companies do this just to get more freight, when they should be doing it to get more money and freight. Thats where alot make their mistakes.outerspacehillbilly Thanks this. -
That's been my gripe all along--longer trailer=more freight=same rate
lighter equipment=more freight=same rate--the minimal gains in rates have never outpaced the freight gain--and at end of year same carrier has just pulled x amount of loads less overall--and IF the rate did increase which it rarely does--less loads=less money--I have watch this for too many years--especially with the bigger carriers--and I know some of you will want to fight me on this--so go ahead--BUT--show me on PAPER where overall anybody BUT the shippers or receivers have ever benefitted from increase cubic capacity(LTL Freight carriers not withstanding!)outerspacehillbilly and Les2 Thank this. -
I never said the guy who came up with this brilliant idea had a light bulb with enough wattage to power a birthday cake candle. You'll also note I'm not buying into it either. Bet they'll decide these little tractors are just the thing to pull around a tridem at 97,000lbs GVW too - when that little boondoggle gets passed.
As part of the deal for doing this - at least with this shipper - they did get higher rates out of it for the rest of us. -
....And that is great Iron Pony--I can't tell you how glad I am to hear that your company has seen to it they are getting compensated for what they are doing--I wish more owuld be that way--but alas all too often I hear of shippers requiring carriers to be able to scale such and such or cube such and such--because they se the specs on the latest greatest lite trailer or supercube or whatever and just expect their carrier or another to provide this much more for them without expecting any compensation difference-
