Hmmm lets see in my paltry 18 years of driving;
Air ride cabs, air ride suspensions, tilt telescopic steering wheels, cruise control, power windows, mirrors, door locks, automatic transmissions, back up warning buzzers (even close circuit tv cameras which can be positioned to show blind spots in dash monitors include what is directly behind the truck) on board computers and gps that give turn by turn directions (visual and audible), eaton Vorad anti collision/rollover sensors which gives audible alerts when a vehicle is exceeding safe speed on ramps. Smart cruise control with vehicle detection software actually decreases a trucks speed when cruise control is engaged and it gets too close to a vehicle in front. Air ride trailers smooth out the ride for the freight. Special designed boxes on the trailer tandem allow a child to push a button and slide the tandem, air slide fifth wheels are common, and the list goes on with the technological advances.
Now you wanna retract that statement???? 37 years of driving??? You must have your head stuck somewhere because you have no clue about the technology available in trucks today.
Small truckers?

One day a saw a midget trucker. Really, the guy was about half of my hight and I am 5'4. I saw when he parked at the fuel bay of a truck stop and got off the truck. I was very amazed...

It's probably better the smaller you are. That means you have more room to move about your cabin!

Very true. I'm 6'5", 245 lbs or so, and I find it difficult to get into a comfortable driving position. If my back is fine, my legs cramp up. If my legs are fine, my arms get tired. If my arms are fine, my butt falls asleep.
-
Very true. I am 5'4" and 98 lbs and that helps me many times not only moving inside truck but also climbing on top of truck or crawling under it if necessary. My only difficulty is that I have to move seat almost all the way forward and then my knees hit the stering wheel collum....

There are more problems with the mental part of trucking that the physical part.
It is hard to adjust to the lifestyle of a long distance driver.
If he can pass the mandatory DOT physical , no problem with his size. I have friends who weigh under 125, and have no problems.

Im sooo glad to be hearing this. Im 5'5" and 95 lbs soaking wet right now. But Im usually between 105 & 115 lbs. Ive been worried about the size issue also.
Thanks, I feel better now...
