Can someone tell me what safety chains have to do with printing your logs or not, I'm confused, but then I'm getting old.

    Chasingthesky Thanks this.

The OP mentioned in it one of his posts that his brother got a ticket for not crossing the chains on a GN with a ball/Socket setup... it kind of went off track

Forget to make sure the jaws latch on a fifth wheel and you'll have a trailer sitting on the ground. Laws can't and usually aren't intended to prevent human error.

While LEOs may not be the brightest crowd, I refuse to believe they're THAT stupid. To the ones who like to say "just doing my job" or "I just enforce the law, I don't interpret it", there's a lot of law you aren't enforcing. You can't hide behind that excuse when you intentionally pick and choose laws that don't really apply to enforce. And yes, if any sort of ticket or fine comes of this, it will definitely be addressed.

My fault. I was following the rich TTR tradition of hijacking a thread. Carry on

Actually, most styles of ball couplers are adjustable, so even with the correct size ball, they can still come off under some conditions.
And using the wrong size ball is pretty common as well lol
They also wear with use, and usually it is not really noticeable under the grease.

5th wheel trailers not properly latched are most likely going to reveal this fact very quickly, while a ball and socket hitch can (and very often does...) ride totally unlatched for miles, until a bump or hard braking pops it off.

And while not as noticeable as with a bumper pull, the chains crossed for a gooseneck will make some difference, because the trailer hitch will not swing side to side as much, thus making loss of control less likely.

And again with the knowing and refusing to follow the law lol

I guess the subject of this thread is abiding by the law, so this hasn't really been off topic after all! ;)

I can fax or email my last 8 Days logs at the push of a button from my phone with the Keep Truckin app.
