Smith isn't a bad company, but they do have some flaws. Make sure you check your truck out completely when you receive it. Look under neither for and damage to the moldings. I had a small brush mark on my bumper, when I went in for service they made me shut down until the body shop could look at it. This was one a friday, and the body shop don't work weekends. sat there til monday just so they could tell me there is nothing they can do about it, wasn't serious, but they still put it on my DAC report. I left to find a local position, when I turned my truck in, they found some damage to one of the side skirts, I was unaware of. They also put that on my DAC report. Oh yeah, after 14 days out they expect you to take your 34 hr restart and be ready to go again. Also will dispatch you to leave out on Christmas night. Who wants to leave on Christmas night? Ok they have a few more flaws then I thought. I'm not saying stay away, but I am say be extra carful.

i was with smith for 10yrs 2 company 8 o/o. the lumper reimbursed is not what you think it is.... quick example lets say u did 800 dollars for the week and you had 185 lumper..smith adds the two together so (985) then they tax you on the 985 not 800 after tazes are taken then they reimburse you farther down on your pay sheet.....this way if you walk in there sayin your not makin money they pull up your reports and tell you you made 985 when you really only made 800 but was taxed on 985...the bigger they got the worse it got. i was there when they only had 250 trucks and two modulars for office space thats when it was a good company...250 to over a thousand trucks in under 10 yrs...TOO BIG TOO FAST

My experience is I get a lumper price, I call my dispatcher give hime the amount and the Comcheck or Fleet One check make it out for the amount. Since the lumpers name is the payee and my company is the payer and the acounting ect would omit me from the transaction.
Now if you paid the lumpers supposedly out of pocket (and seeking reimbursment)before an approval I could see a issue there. -
Every time i was missing something on my pay it took over a month to get it paid back.
They promise $900-$1200 a week in recruiting and advertise $55k a year as a driver avg,you can can expect more like $700-$800 a week and an average of about 1900-2200 miles a week.
There bonus is almost unobtainable unless you are there top driver. I was in the top 30% of drivers and i could not make it.
I will say they do have very nice equipment but ask yourself what is more important a nice truck or a nice paycheck,you can't take the truck to the bank.
On a final note if you resign from them you have to provide your own transportation home,if you work for them for less than a year they will deduct $100 for physical and drug test,and they take $500 from you and hold it to make sure you don't abandon the truck when you quit don;t expect that right back when you quit either that can take up to a couple of months.
I normally do not trash a company that i have worked for but this one deserves it!!!!!!
Fellow drivers beware -
2. Any time there is something missing and the paperwork has been received, a comcheck is issued that Friday, without fail, every time.
3. Your pay is a reflection of how hard you work-they tell you that the first day. How many miles you run depends on you directly.
4.I know tons of many, many drivers who get the bonus every quarter, and even a few who got it the very first quarter they were employed.
5. Who told you what rank you were?
6. I don't know of many companies that provide transportation home if you quit. If you want to leave you get home on your own accord. That goes for the bigger trucking companies as well.Doma Thanks this. -
Maverick will pay you to get home if you quit and as long as you turn in your equipment and do not just abandon it. -
Hell, even Arrow gave me a bus ticket home when I turned in their junk in Dallas.
