I am current driver now. I've been with Smith a little over 2yrs. I've been currently working locally on a dedicated account for about 6 months.I can tell you with much certainty the majority of our roads drivers run really good miles.The tradeoff over here is miles vs pay.. I will admit the starting base pay(35cpm) is nothing to brag about and to make over here you have to learn the"system." This job is pure hustle and you have to have the mindset that I am here just to deliver my loads on time and early as possible regardless of your appt window. We have easily 75/80% drop and hook but alot of drivers who have drops tend to drop on the back end of their window instead of the front end or they take all day in delivering a short drop/hook load and miss out on the 700/800 intermediate runs that Smith often have...This job is not for everyone and some do better than others but if you're willing to go above and beyond you can make a pretty decent living here.I speak from personal exp...I miss otr here but my family wanted me to be home every day vs being home weekly. And when I was on the road I never missed a weekend at home and I never ever had a week that I ran less than 2500...In fact according to my dispatcher my weekly avg was about 2700 miles and my avg pay rate was about 44 cpm but granted I ran my az# off and had pretty fast truck. Anyway I am sorry your experience here wasnt a pleasant one and hope that all is well with you current employer and lets face it none of us will ever get rich driving a truck![]()

Containerguy you hit the nail on the head when you said you drove dedicated.. Of course their gonna keep you moving as much as possible and run you ragged... I was talking OTR...maybe they don't use the term "sit tight" because there's no load to move in your area.. or 24 - 32 hours later (when you should've been drivin because you had the hours to do so) you're still "sittin tight" waiting for that load..or your rig broke down after it was supposedly "fixed" at the terminal and you had sat waiting for it for a couple of days..there are many different things but the later is just an example..in fact some things have gotten better and others... besides, you never said during the 2 years at Smith if you had ever driven OTR...you might find that side a little different...thats what the older ones say anyways...

I am sorry I wasnt clear. I drove otr then switched to dedicated. I will admit I had a "####" good dispatcher and she knew I liked to run hard and she made every effort to give me the miles and tight delivery schedule but in all fairness that was over a year ago and I've been on dedicated about 7 months. I can only speak from my experiences when I was OTR. I will admit you had to wrk really hard to make money and that sometimes meant some ambitious logging lol. Anyway be safe out there

They are not going to elogs. When they got audited by DOT per safety last year they did well enough not to use them and they had the option of elogs or using self compliance to ensure all drivers were legal. So they choose the latter
And that's been their loaded gun in making sure all drivers run legal..."If drivers keep getting log violations we will use elogs if you drivers stay compliant we won't have to" just the mere threat kinda makes drivers try to stay legal
