They give you a cheat sheet for the air brakes test. And they pretty much go over everything with you prior to doing the pretrip inspection.

I was wondering what there rider policy is, and if they have Electronic Logs? Thanks!
-
Very general rider policy. After you been with company 90 days you can have a rider minimum age is 8yrs old. No electronic logs...Pretty much run like you wanna just as long as you're able to match your fuel stops accurately with 15-30 mins.
trucker37841 Thanks this. -
Thanks! I was hoping they had a rider policy from day 1. And hoping they had electronic logs, lol. Thanks for answering me though!

Well, I start Smith on Monday. I'll be sure to give any and all info that I'm able to collect. I was an O/O for 3 1/2 years, so unlike most drivers I've read on these posts, I know a bit what it takes to work hard for your money and understand why some companies do what they do. I've also noticed that a few of these posts were from 2008/2009. Guess what guys, the economy SUCKED both of those years and MANY companies closed their doors, so Smith and those who work/worked there should be thankful changes were made so people can stay employed. Times are still tough. I do know two people who work for Smith, both speak highly of the company. One guy left, and came back and said "if the grass is greener on the other side, that's because it's fake". Not saying Smith is perfect, but just like anything else in life, there's ups and downs. So I will be sure to give a non-entitled driver (that's right, I said it, most of you drivers are spoiled brats. I'm 26 and even I know better than most of you) opinion on Smith as soon as it becomes available.
God Bless. -
Hey small world
One of my best friends work for Smith for almost 4 years and for the most part he was happy with them but he's with GSTC now.
What part of Pittsburgh are you from????? Heck we might know each other. Well hope things work out for you and keep us updated. -
I'm from the South Hills, you? One of the guys I know who works there lives here in town by me and the other guy I know lives in Indiana and is out of the terminal they have there.
-
I'm from the South Hills too, I see a Smith truck from time to time rolling down Rt 51 looks like the same guy when I see him maybe its the guy who lives by you.
Good luck hope things work out for you. -

Well, I finished my first day of orientation. For starters, the road test is NOT, repeat, NOT on a simulator. Second, these cats are very particular about your pre-trip inspections and hooking up to and dropping the trailers. So far, everyone is very nice and so far, I have ZERO complaints. Before we had breakfast, the guy leading orientation said a prayer. Not that everyone believes in the same thing, but it's the thought behind it. Also, they're pretty serious about not swearing in the offices and such. They try to keep everything clean and respectful. They asked us what trucks we wanted, so they can try to get in a truck that we actually want, and so far, everyone is getting what they asked for as far as that goes. They do expect you to do the job that they've hired you to do, many people have a problem with that and cause problems and then come on here to bad mouth the company because they can't do everything they want and don't want to follow company policies.
Also, as far as incentives go, I know one guy on here said they were done away with... That's another lie. You have to EARN those incentives and they make it very easy to earn them. And that is by being on time for pick ups and deliveries, no moving violations, hitting the pre-planned fuel stops and getting good fuel mileage. All are easy to do. So if someone doesn't get the money incentives they've offered, that's their fault. They also have you sign a paper stating everything you were promised by your recruiter. Which means they can't go against it.
Well, that's all I have so far. Anything else I can pass along, I'll surely do so.mile marker, 1catfish, leftdoorclosed and 2 others Thank this.
