I have established for sure that the DAF motors here don't have glow plugs.
The dealer has now replaced the injectors for a 3rd time.
We will know in the morning if this has rectified the problem.
Smoke on cold start up.

I guess there is a tropics version.
When you took off the heads, did you put new valveseals on?(oilseals) -
DAF main dealer started the truck with 3rd set of injectors this morning and still exactly the same white smoke for first bit then all good.
No one knows why this is.
We are now wondering if there may be an issue with compression rings not sealing straight away.
We know they seal because compression test is good and smoke (un burnt diesel) does away after a short while.
We did 2 DAF motors at the same time (Pistons , liners , bearings and heads).
One 430hp and this 480hp.
With this one the the DAF agents did not have original pistons.
Pistons were aftermarket , everything else was OE parts.
Maybe compression rings are sticky till they have warmed a bit?
If this is the case a cold compression test should show this I would think.
Not sure they could do this. -
On my old Daf 380 (euro 2) we did a cold compressiontest.
It is quite possible that the aftermarket parts have just a little more tolerance then the OE parts when cold.
I use aftermarket parts but i realise that there is difference in quality.
On some parts that difference doesn't matter but on some it does.king Q Thanks this. -
seems to me you are just chasing a phantom really. I have no experience with that engine but 40 years in all kinds of equipment with diesels i have had boats that made fog banks until they warmed up and ran for 10 years
All the construction sites looked like a scrap yard of junk when the loaders and dozers were heating up. YOU mention fuel in the oil but it must be minute to not have it smoke all day. A gallon of lucas oil treatment will thicken the oil coat the cylinders ease start up wear Q uit spending money on it and go make some with it. Don't look out the window as the driver starts it in the morning -
This is the DAF/Pacar MX fore runner.
If is a 12,6l the MX is a 12,9l.
I am starting to think I will just run it and see what happens.
In fact a driver has already collected it.
Got to generate some money.
When I first started and drove myself I had to nurse sick trucks because I could not afford to just repair.
I cant expect drivers to nurse a problem so I try keep things right.
I feel with this I am just chasing my tail.
The diesel in the oil was only a tiny amount and I think it was from when the injectors get removed because in this engine the injector tubes fill with diesel on removal and then on to the pistons. -
King Q,i hope you let us know in some time how things are going with it.

When you remove the heads the timing cover remains in place. -
Double post removed.
