What goes around, comes around.
While we pander to 14% minorities, we love to hate the 25% minoritiy.

OMG!! I can't believe he got away with that!!! I mean, non-smokers don't hurt anyone or make anyone smell anything they don't want to, don't make anyone sick, don't give anyone headaches but the smokers sure do. Too bad they couldn't come to an agreement of really good fans or a smoking section and a non-smoking section or something.
They had smoking rooms in a lot of the restaurants around here for awhile and that was great. Everyone got to "do their thing" and no one bothered the other.
I do understand the non-smokers being upset, though, because I get migraines when I'm around cigarette smoke.
This is also a health issue, though, and I think smoking should be cut back everywhere in the world. Yes, I used to smoke and even when I smoked, I wouldn't smoke in my own house. I didn't want it around my kids or the smell or filth in the house. I didn't smoke in the car if the kids were with me. I NEVER smoked around the kids. Period. And I always asked if others minded before I lit up. I didn't mind smoking outside. It was my health I was affecting - I didn't feel it was okay for force someone to inhale carcinogens just because *I* liked to smoke.
It's just common courtesy and in the interests of everyone's good health.
Sure is different over in Europe than it is here, isn't it? wow... -
I'm a smoker, and I'm considerate of my habit as well. However, I'm kinda getting sick of all the flack I have to take just because I do choose to smoke. Illinois just passed a law on Jan 1 making all public buildings smoke free. This law includes bars, restaurants (most were already smoke free) and casinos. I'm aware of the health risks to myself and others, and I respect that. However, I'm tired of feeling persecuted (for lack of better word) by all the non-smokers of the world. Kudos to this guy for keeping his workplace one big smoking area. I've often heard complaints from non smokers about how smokers take extra breaks, etc, at work just for a cigarette. This happened to me a lot when I was with the Budweiser Clydesdales. I wouldn't stop in the middle of what I was doing just to have a smoke, but if I had my tasks done and others were standing around, I'd step back and have a cigarette. Of course, this would always bring ridicule from my co-workers. This business owner is being mindful of both productivity and a person's habit. To me it's simple. If you don't smoke, don't apply for a job at this company. I know this wouldn't fly over here with all the sue happy people in this country, but it'd be nice if it did.
