That? HA. Just a wee fog in the morning. A chance to wipe off the bugs a bit when you get down there.
As you have already witnessed in your own thread, many preach that the mountains are only out west...... And then many wonder why young enthusiastic men such as yourself end up in the ditch, or worse! Yes the mountains out west are longer grades than you will find here on the East side, but the truth of the matter is..... no matter which coast your on, RESPECT the grade!! @wore out and I had this conversation running down I-77 together last summer in WV. Always Read the road signs and take heed. Like another member here mentioned a while back ( @TripleSix ) even Sandstone mountain on 64 in WV will take you by surprise if you don’t heed the signs! Take your time, stay focused on the task at hand and you will be fine. I remember years ago rolling down a grade with the jakes holding it back just fine, then suddenly I lost the Jakes unexpectedly and had to really take control! Expect the unexpected, it’s manmade so it has the potential to fail!! Ever heard the old saying.... it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog? I wonder how many here have ran Pine mtn in Ky? Any that have will know the CB is your best Freind.... 2 trucks can’t pass in a curve! But these are just hills... the Mountains are out West.
Yea I ran i77 for the first time with 50 thousand of condensed in my shotgun tank I was trying to be very careful and watch my speed Coming down into North Carolina I let the surrounding traffic lull me into thinking I was watching my speed. Before o knew it I was screaming against the Jake doing 75 mph with that curve at the end coming up It got a little nerve wracking trying to get my speed down with out risking Smoking my brakes. I have a cool head and went into the situation aware but still almost got myself into trouble once the point of no return in speed was approached.
It’s easy to do at times, I’m very fortunate that I’ve never had a problem / wreck in over 30 yrs of commercial driving, but there’s always that first time. I respect every grade as though it’s 40 miles long, even I-68 through WV and Maryland can catch folks off guard. We have to be prepared for everything.
. nc has some state roads that are pretty steep. like us421 out of boone. or 226 out of spruce pines. thats a 14% grade
So bring 2 pairs of you think it would be safer to find a company that mainly stays out west instead of finding regional and staying on the east coast?
Hahaha us west coast cats laugh at what them east coast ppl call "mountains" them things is hills compared to out west... Pennsylvania they got some big ### mountains tho west virginia too... Smokey mountains is really just rolling hills...
