24% is very steep. This is losing 24 feet for every 100 feet traveled. Put another way take a football field of 300 feet. A 24% grade would be like going from one endzone to the next and being 72 feet lower!

I don’t know what the grade was, but once I took the wrong route to pick up a Kingsford Charcoal Load somewhere S.E. of Morganstown, Going through hairpin curves, with axles forward, I was actually dragging the ICC bumper.Lol No turning back!!!

This past November just before Thanksgiving I hauled a log cabin kit, very heavy load on a 53 foot spread axle flatbed up this road and then back down it (empty at that point thankfully). Fairly steep, not terrible bad but the switchbacks with that spread axle we're almost too much. Thank the Lord I didn't get stuck! This video is the exact road I was on. Imagine a heavily loaded flatbed going up around these switchbacks with snow on the ground.

Edited to add: This is in Colorado about 20 miles west of Denver just off I-70.

Maybe he'll come back and tell us if we haven't scared him off. I've been on most of those goat trails up there and other than a couple of logging roads I don't remember anything quite that steep.
On logging roads with that kind of grade they'd usually pull us up empty with a Cat and then put the Cat on the back for a drag when you got loaded. The longest of those I remember was only a half mile or so.

It's the anthracite coal, PA Consists of several ranges compressed to make this coal, it's ok running the valley in say I -81 but when you start crossing them ridges well... it's show time.

I remember a small unpainted mountain mine road that actively tried to throw my truck down and kill me in the rain west of Scranton.

It was foolish thinking i could bypass the then replacement of the interstate.

    Motivating.

Don't like that 25 foot restriction, probably wont fit.
