Maybe, but all it takes is for one to come in contact with something while lit when you fall asleep. Have a friend who fell asleep with one and almost died in bed and another whos Mom did die in a house fire from falling asleep with it.
Smoking in the sleeper berth is a bad idea

IF the driver's story about the cigarette is true, it might very well have been a fire that started in one of those "smokeless" ash trays that are sold in the truck stops. I've used them and if they get too full of cigarette butts they can start smoldering and get hot. Park the ash tray next to something flammable and it could start a fire. Driver in the sleeper berth with the curtains closed on a sunny day, then woken up with the sound of breaking glass.
That being speculated, I don't see how the heat could be intense enough to break windows before the driver woke up and escaped without injury. The curtains would have melted.
Before I talked to the shop employee that heard the drivers story my impression from the burned wreck is that the fire started in the batteries. -
Those polyester sleeping bags go up quick. Trust me, I was a Boy Scout lmao

Save a sleeper, drive a day cab! Though, most hotels are non-smoking at least inside nowadays.
G13Tomcat Thanks this.
