Problem with the whole "straps go with the trailer" crap is people don't take the necessary precautions to protect the equipment. I pulled a company trailer...8 brand new straps and a brand new tarp...for 3 months and all of the equipment still looks like new despite having been used quite a bit. I'd almost be willing to bet dollars to donuts by the time I get it back (after a month of use by others), the straps will have cuts and the tarp will have holes.

Company would rather spend the money replacing a few straps here and there (and disciplining drivers who don't protect them properly) and repairing the tarps than waste time paying drivers to do work twice.

That makes sense, too...and could work IF people are actually held accountable. I have always dreaded drop & hooks because it always seems to happen AFTER you spent the time getting it up to par, and then the next one always seems to have issues of its own again. Equipment is just one more avenue to experience problems. Pick up the trailer and everything LOOKS good, but get to your first pickup to find 3 straps are cut, the tarps are folded upside down and backwards, and half the ratchets are siezed up....and that's in addition to the flat tire and burned out tail light that you had fixed before you left the yard.

I lost faith in my fellow drivers years ago. If I can stay hooked to the same trailer most of the time, I'm happy.

Yeah, the accountability is high. If it weren't, I'd be in the same boat as you. Give me my own trailer and I'll do all the picks and drops. Preferably a tandem 48' roll tite that can go with a 280" wheelbase 389 and looks like Rollin Transport.
