snap vs rachet chain binder

Same here, I just make sure my rachet binders are well lubricated.

 

I use ratchet binders, im not in that big of a hurry. I have never seen the damage a snap binder can do, but i have heard the stories from drivers who have witnessed it...... no thanks, ill take my time with the ratchets

 

When I use snap binders I wrap some chain around them and then put a bungee around the chain. It helps to prevent anything from happening and offers a little extra security.

 

i carry 16 snap binders and two ratchet binders. i have to have two ratchet binders because i occasionally carry a farm equipment load that uses two ratchet binders between two pieces to unitize them.

other than that, i hate ratchet binders. heavy, slow, and i don't have anywhere to store them. if i hang them up, the bottom hooks untwist and fall off, and if i put them in the side boxes, they end up falling against the latches and jamming the doors.

but you have to respect the snaps, because they store a lot of energy. i've never been hit, because i never trust them.

 

I have a few snap binders, but avoid using them. I also have some of the old style ratchet binders. The best way to store them is to hang them binder, chain, binder, chain, on the rack, then hook a chain with the bottom to keep it from unscrewing. My favorite are the new Quikbinders. They store easily, have internal stops to keep from coming apart and with the rubber around the body, I can put the pawl in neutral and spin them up or down, between my hands, in seconds.

 

i have 10 snap binders on mine. I don't like the ratchet. Take longer and i don't think you can get them as tight.

 

snaps dont bother me you just need to be carefull make sure the bar doesnt slip when coming down that can cause a injurie

 

I use ratchet binders and that all. For me they are no slower than snap binders and i can get the chain alot tighter than useing snap binders.

 

The problem is that half the losers in our fleet do not lube up their ratchet binders and then when you do an equipment exchange you end up fighting the half rusted binders they used on the load.
