snow chains

Do you guys actually chain up alot? I have been driving since 1995, not nearly as long as alot of you, but I have never chained up. I do carry the chains because I have to have them on the truck, but I feel that if chains are needed, it is time to park. Then again, I am a HHG O/O, so my delivery dates and times are quite flexible!

Are there any alternatives to snow chains?
I found Snow Claws and snow Cables after some googling.
Has anyone used either? If so please comment.
Also please suggest if you know any other alternative..

Not really...Cables are a joke! Chains aren't all that bad. Most of the time I wind up only puttin them on a couple of times a year. Once you get your routine down it doesn't take too long to hang them.

 

I know you guys are in a different time zone, but I'm pretty sure it is still summer there, do we have to talk about snow chains already?, anywho you can't beat a good set of triples

 

The only alternative I know & use... Is just pull over & park it until the roads clear up.

I've done that too...When time allows or if it's just too bad to move. But I don't mind hangin' a little iron now and then. I wouldn't want to have to do it every day though.

We all know snow chains are not cheap on the road not to mention the fines running out west without them .

I know of a driver who has bags and bags of new tire chains at real low prices . He lives near Iowa City . If anyone is interested please send me a pm and we'll go further .

What are the chains laws anyhow? It's been years since I've been in that part of the country in the winter time.... What requires doubles? What requires singles?
