It shouldn't make a difference with just the tractor parking brakes set (yellow knob only), but when you have multiple axle groups with locked brakes the scale platforms can no longer float freely, throwing off the calibration.

    Vito and Grumppy Thank this.

The Pilot in Clear Lake,Iowa always had a pile of snow a foot or so covering the entry to the scale. You can either walk in and ask a staff member to plz clean the scale off or find another scale. But the DOT won't accept that as an excuse if you are too heavy.

snow on the scale, you wiegh, if it was not tared for the snow, it will show a heavier weight than what you actually are. So when you roll across a DOT scale, you will be lighter than what you thought. Cat scales auto tare via the computer software.

Yup, I was just going to point that out. The operator inside has nothing to do with it. Same with DOT scales. They auto tare all the time. The DOT also has the ability to lower the tare a lot during snow periods by as much as 3,000 pounds. I asked once.

Now I feel as though I have to start watching, Bill Nye the science guy.

When I'd rather be watching, Pawn Stars, Hard Core Pawn, or Storage Wars.

That is why I wait a few seconds before pulling on after a truck leaves.
