I think that's how it SHOULD be, but I'm not sure that's how it is. For the reasons that @skinnyb01 pointed out. Seems like all these companies just cry like babies if they have to come off of more than $0.40 per mile per vehicle
So called owner/operators

All this talk about not making any money has me worried. I guess I better go work a couple days before the years end. I had planned to take 2 weeks off but I'm feeling guilty now. Anyway I hope we can all get along and just agree to disagree! It has been my experience that 50 of us can look at something and get 50 different points of view. Mine is not necessarily right or wrong, but neither are the other 49 people. My point of view even is conflicting with my younger, debt laden harder working self. So if I can't agree with myself how on earth am I going to agree with you? Lol. Have a safe New Years Eve and let's all plan to make 2017 our best year yet!
VTech, brian991219 and Terry270 Thank this. -
Precisely my point. Tell me you have a dedicated account, but pick and choose what and where.

I wish I could decide to take two weeks off

I haul new northwest. Then I haul used down towards the port. Then I spend a few days hauling out of the auctions down into the NW USA then haul new back home for the weekend.
It's not a glamorous gig. I can't sit around bragging to my buddies about vacation homes and how awesome I am . But it's a nice little triangle I've spent years carving out and it works for me.
The auction freight some of which are my freight I've swept up are rated 2 ways ( which you WON'T get with new car) and my stuff from the north down towards the port are lease returns that I have built relationships with dealers on over the years. Then the new are nissan and hyundai I bring back home.
If either one of these parts either aren't ready or there's no freight there's enough revenue to forgo that section. ( Ex if I have nothing to come back south from the north) I can still run it empty and not loose my shirt. Or I can miss the USA freight and the northern stuff and go right from my home to the port empty and load the new cars home. I don't like doing that but there's still money in it. -
Mom having a condo in Florida and not getting to stay more than a couple days at Christmas in past years when I worked for others made it an easy decision.

Keep in mind these aren't easy interstate miles. This is 2 lane moutain climbing chain up for miles. This is why I don't worry about anybody taking my freight . Nobody wants it haha

Chaining up a car carrier, you deserve every dollar you get!skinnyb01 Thanks this.

OK. What you describe is equivalent to the same things you ragged Mr&MrsPete about. You are looking at the big picture. Running empty when it has to be, etc. Same exact thing. New import traffic, especially Nissan, is not exactly a gold mine. If you are hauling cross border traffic, you have your share of headaches.
So let's call it what it is. We are all on the same page.Mr&MrsPete Thanks this. -
Mr&MrsPete running out of Benicia to Reno in the winter knows all about chaining up an Auto TransportMr&MrsPete Thanks this.
