I am a lease op now, I Have and will continue to be successful, it's more of SFI walking away, it being a walk away lease either party can walk away. But schneider seems like it has the better lease program, I'm beginning to think prime has bit off more than it can chew I've consistently been getting low paying freight, and having to drive 60mph just to make a paycheck isn't cutting it, I understand yes fuel is your biggest variable cost But it shouldn't affect my settlement like it does.
so choice load... lease?

I for one but honestly don't know of any others on TTR that run as fast as I do.
I drive the speed limit where ever I may be at like this week I was in Texas and I ran 70 or 75 depending on what speed was and I have no problem making money. Today's settlement was from last Thursday to Monday about 2pm and I netted 1900 plus and that was running speed limit.
Point is I may make a little less than someone who drives 60 (although I turn more loads than them so I actually earn more) who's costs are less but I'm happy and that's my concern.
And I go home every week regardless of where I am such as last week I bobtailed 370 miles home.
Here at SNI we may botch and all but it's a good fit for most of us.stormy379, damonarnold816, tazman74 and 3 others Thank this. -
Also prime is starting this micro managing crap. When I start to see it I'll be turning in my keys. It's rediculous they tell you how fast you can go down hills.

Really the only way SFI is going to walk off with the truck before you complete your lease (assuming you want to complete your lease) is if you do something stupid. I see threads on here from time to time and saw a great one on the trucking section on Reddit about people whining about SFI taking their truck back before they could pay it off - of course they left out all the details of WHY, like constantly being late on loads, being incredibly insulting and disrespectful to the folks at SNI or SFI, missing payments, etc.
If you have no/poor credit your option will basically be a Cascadia on a year lease. Used is nothing down, I think sometimes the new ones require a small down payment depending on credit.
If you have decent credit you can still do the 1 year with a Cascadia, or 2 year on a used, what SFI calls a "premium", truck (KW, Peterbilt, Volvo, etc), or 3 year on a brand new one.
Inventory depends on what they have on hand when you ask. It's changing all the time.
At the end of the lease you can buy the truck if you have the full amount to pay off what you still owe.
Depending on what you still owe and the age of the truck you can sometimes refinance (well, release) the residual and lower the balloon on another lease term, or if you owe little enough, lease until it's completely paid off.
Almost all the trucks now will have OnGuard/Wingman/etc. Some of them are governed to 85MPH, others aren't touched from the factory. Remember, of course, that with the MCP on there they can always see your speed. Back to the earlier discussion, if you got a ticket for an excessive speed, especially while under a load, could be another reason why they might decide to "repo" your lease truck.
Overall SFI run by a pretty reasonable group. Make your payments, don't do anything stupid and you won't have any issues. The payments are high, it is what it is.
The biggest downside, especially only a longer lease, is if the economy (or company for that matter) takes a turn for the worse, SFI has control over what you can do with the truck. They will consider letting you switch to other carriers usually after you have shown a year or so of good performance. Don't think they'd let you run your own authority with their trucks though.
If you have the ability to get a truck from the outside, personally I think that is the way to go, but SFI is a good option otherwise. I had really zero complaints about SFI during my 1 year lease with a Cascadia through them.Lonesome, maurice80, csw1818 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Well I wouldn't speed, I would be content enough to run the speed limit. And you keep saying "make your payments" do they not have a settlement system? Where your company (one man llc) and schneider settle between what's owed to each other?.. also I really would only do a year lease to begin with, because yes I run a lease now, but running load boards is a completely different story.
-
Yes, we have weekly settlements but some people get carried away on time at home and end up with no revenue for the week hence no truck payment and no reserve in the bank. Ends up biting them in the butt.
-
Yea that's what I was figuring, also is sfi your accountants also or do you have to go to an outside source?
-
No, SFI does no accounting. If you need an accountant you can pick and pay for yourself. I personally use ATBS. But it's your choice if or who you use.

CSW, I'm a lease driver here at Prime as well. I'm looking in to sni and taking my Prime truck over with me. If you read your lease you can take your truck to any other carrier you want, you aren't stuck with Prime. I've talked with the leaseing office already about this and all they require is you have no negative balances, you pay them 2 weeks of lease payments in advance and once a month you go over how many dispatch miles you did and send them a check for that 4.5cmp or if you are on the new contract it's 5.5cpm. You send them the lease payment yourself, don't have to have sni do it for you, plus sni won't do that anyways. I have a lot more info on this if you're interested.
damonarnold816 Thanks this. -
