It is not a power mic, it has an elecret element which needs power to work. These elements need power to run a little amplifier built into them to produce any output but not like an amplified mic, they produce the output equal to the output of a non-amplified element. Also these elements were designed for specific high noise environments like aircraft, I found them in catalogs like Digikey and such but on the expensive side compared to non-noise cancelling elements. The headset I have right above me needs to have power, it uses the same element and instead of deriving power from a battery, it comes from the console unit I built for my radios. I use that when the noise here gets high, thanks to my wife yelling at the cats and the cats yelling back.
