    Right. the Heil will actually sound worse than the Astatic on a stock cobra 29, because the astatic has a response curve meant to make the most of the narrow band pass in most stock radios (usually 500-3000) and the Heil is pretty flat.

    Oh BTW, these latest Galaxy models (939F, 979F, 55F, 66V2 and 86V) are wide as hell in the audio chain, from the factory...Galaxy has been listening to its customers.

    I don't believe it is.

    I have several but it all depends on what you want to do. I think broadcast quality on the CB band is an overkill, especially when trying for distance records. The narrow the bandwidth, the higher the success.

    The low frequencies will kill you in short order...part of why AM broadcast needs so much power.

    Also why Motormouth Maul needs so much power and Stringbean uses so much less to accomplish similar results

    That's generally true in theory but I think you'd be surprised what would happen if you sliced 300 hertz off the bottom end and added a thousand hertz to the top end. Getting that audio out of the low frequency noise makes it much easier to be Intelligible at greater distances.

    Elenco makes a nice tone generator that can manually sweep up to 20000 hertz.
    No microphone needed.
