This is the kind of BS that is keeping the starter companies alive. They need to die, and they need to die now. He can get a CDL from a local beer warehouse! Drive local! I dunno if thats what he wants to do but its a good way to learn. But taking pictures at a truckstop wouldnt help him find them. (if op is interested look at the small print "operated by" on the tractor)
Yes, in the trucking industry it has long been believed that you have to go OTR before you can land a local driving gig. Local gigs can be had by anyone, even someone right out of school, you just have to want it and go after it no matter how many people tell you to go OTR first.
where do i look though? I just know about the beer places and the place that delivers buns to our mcdonaldses, and the local Con-Way terminal. There's also a couple of small OTR outfits around town that arent really OTR...they say you stay out for 2 weeks at a time but you drive through the area extremely often, problem is, i live in michigan and thats mostly AUTO PARTS... I'm gonna apply at the beer places and the bun place next time i go home. Problem is the bun place demands in-person application in downtown chicago...long drive (they have a michigan route where i'd pick the truck up and drop it off at a mcdonalds in michigan, but hell, i'd move to chicago for the job if i had to!) It feels like its impossible to find these places since im otr all the time. but im sick of otr. i want to be local. im going to make it happen. I'm also getting ready to start my own business and the transition would be easier at a local job...
How is calling the cops, wasting hours of your day, and getting into heated arguments with law enforcement fun?
1. The TA security threatened to call them. I'd have said "Go ahead" 2. It wouldn't take more than about 5 minutes of my time or the cops. 3. Who said anything about arguing with the cops, heated or otherwise?
1. Why? Unless you've got nothing better to do with your time, or the only way you can bring about intimidation is by following up on their words, then go ahead. 2. 5 minutes for the cops to come. Then ??? time while they are there figuring the situation out. 3. The cops will come. And who do you think they will believe? Some random man walking around taking pictures of private property even though he was told not to, or security, with whom cops have a stereotypically good friendship with?
