I understand your arguement. However, it becomes about which company is gonna provide you what you need from them. If your gonna bust your ### and not be home then you mind as well find a company that meets thise few needs.

I've inquired with a few. But like anyone else with a new license, gotta start somewhere.
Problem is I can be picky. I have a personal friend who is a trainer at Werner.
So my training period will be with a personal friend instead of some fat messy stinky slob or some euro bloc kid who's been in a truck for 3 weeks.
I keep a clean truck. As in, I pick up all my trash and throw it away, I keep my glass clean, wash and wax the truck, stop at a rest area to piss, keep clean clothes, and shower daily. I may not be able to shower daily, but at least I take a bird bath with warm water and soap. I also floss and brush my teeth daily.
I don't want to wait 90+ days for my girl to come out with me like most companies want. Or in the case of TMC, marry her right away just to drive a truck.
It sucks that I have all this experience yet it's not relevant to these companies. I think that experience put off a few recruiters as well.
I asked some tough questions, and only two rectuiters took the time to answer ALL of them. WERNER AND STAR TRANSPORTATION. star wants me on dedicated and home every weekend. I want to stay out longer that 5 days.
SNI has a 6 month wait on riders, and their drivers ##### daily on Facebook.
Only money with prime is with that pint size truck with no passenger seat.
I can hook up with any # of trash companies. I'm in the middle of living out my childhood dream to climb up in a tt unit and run around and see new places.
    Some want to ruin it.
I don't have kids. I don't need to be chained to some $1000 + a month apartment. Listening to some pain in the ### boss who has never operated a truck, and sure cannot tell you the difference between a brake shoe and a brake pad. Been there, done that. With Werner, I'll get a minimum of 3 trailers a week. That's $600 without driving the truck. Plus my sign on bonus add $2125 a week to my pay. That's $725. Without driving the #### truck one mile I've already made $5 more than I did driving around doing 20-30 stops a day in Boston.
    Want me to keep going?

    G.Anthony Thanks this.

    Settle down.

You've made your point like many many others have on here thinking they are going to beat the system with the mega junk companies. Most end up leaving the site because they were wrong and didn't listen to others advice.

Best of luck to you I sincerely hope it works out. Keep us posted and let us know how it goes for you. If you disappear after a few weeks or months we will know.

Boston Tanker and his girl, if you've already decided to go with Werner then why start this thread ? No offense but you should have expected the "backlash". Like you've stated, you picked them because they fit your needs. Be at peace with that. What do you hope to accomplish with this thread ? Argue your way till everyone agrees Werner is the best starter company for you ? My wife and I work at a starter company. We did our research and pulled the trigger. Didn't seek anyones approval. Best of luck to you ! [IMG]

I dunno. I had to leave earlier and smoke a cigar. Then as I was doing so, a Richard Cranium backed into my stockade fencing, breaking one picket.

I ran on over and the guy admitted he did it and was sorry, he didn't see it.....

uh...how do you miss a 6 foot tall red fence..????

well any way's I wanted a mere $2 for the broken picket, and I got that.

then I went to the fence company to buy some extra pickets, since from past experiences, the fence will be hit again, and again.

would you believe me if I said, that 3-4 years ago, a single 6 foot tall grade 2 (it's the way they grade the pickets) cost me back then, 65¢ each..??

and today I bought 5 more (just in case I have a run of crashed pickets) and each one NOW costs $1.90..????

so although I got my $2.00 for the one broken one, I just barely made a profit.??

Oh yeah, and about 2-3 years ago, I also stocked up on decking screws, 2", 2.5", 3", and even 4", by the boxes from Lowes. I use those as since they are cheap. But like the pickets, I ain't priced those out yet.>!!

I did the dollar account for Werner, it does seem you've made your mind up, but just some food for thought.

I was told 3 trailers a week minimum as well, but almost always got 2 and a part of a 3rd. (They didn't pay me the unloading pay of the third until the next settlement, so my settlements always reflected 2 trailers a week, 3 trailers every 3rd week or so.)

My average haul was very short. I didn't see much of the countryside, as my view was generally limited to any one of hundreds of small US towns in a very small area. I only ever drove through 4 states while I was with them on the dollar account, and the towns I saw all looked pretty much like copies of each other.

In addition Dollar General hires the most rude, and ignorant people out of all the stores I've dealt with (Family Dollar, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Sears, Michaels, Lowes, Home Dept, Tractor Supply, Dillards, JC Penny, Brookshires, Walmart etc). Expect to deal with some real turds on a near daily basis.

The work itself wasn't so hard, time consuming but I didn't mind it. What I did mind was trying to get my lift onto the pads in the poorly layed out parking lots, generally around a ton of trash that the manager should have had cleaned up (Old pallets, old Rolltainers, broken carts, old appliances.) Also a lot of the store locations are (no polite way to put this) in very poor areas. I got approached several times a day by people wanting money, or to sell me various things.

Now, with all that I was averaging about 1100 a week gross. Not the worst, but far from fair considering how much work was involved. There were some things I liked about Werner, lots of TA/petro fuel stops (they have the nicest showers in my opinion). The management level is fairly low, and the folks on the phone were nice enough.

    Simplified to pros and cons:

    Pros:
    -Decent Paycheck
    -Nice Office People
    -Decent Insurance

    Cons:
    -Rude Customers
-Tiny Parking lots to navigate (some firmly entrenched in Residential areas, and some stores open during delivery hours)
    -Lots of work involved
    -Didn't do much driving
-Pretty much only saw the region I lived in
-Most of my delivers saw me sleeping behind the Dollar Store itself, as no nearby truckstops and no other way to make appointment. This meant no shower/bathroom available. Nor food, unless a restaurant with 24 hour lobby was nearby. (plenty of Fast Food places now, 24 hour drive thru but lobby closes at 10pm. They won't even serve you, lol).

As it stands, I left Werner to go to Con-Way, but I could have stayed with Werner, they aren't as bad as people make them out to be. I did my job and made my money. Just realized I was doing a bit to much work for what I was getting. :p

Good luck Driver, enjoy the work. If you get in some of those

Nothing wrong with that except your man is getting upset by some of the feedback he's getting.

You have to be secure in your decision and not seek validation from people on here.

Who said I'm gonna beat the system? I did some basic math. The contract requires a minimum of 3 trailers a week. I'll get a better tractor because they're not throwing junk on dedicated. If I can make $950-1050 a week, I'm happy. Plus they offer better benefits, including dental, which I don't have now. See unlike most drivers, I'm not afraid to touch freight and unload full trailers. Been doing odd jobs and eating good for most of my life. I don't need 10,000 a week to be happy. And I don't want to be driving 30 year old tractors my first gig out.
