So what your saying is at first you had one chain and one binder both hooked up top than down and under the rail and had a binder in the middle tightening both sides??

You'd think since the 2 big AC units are the same. And one is on top of the other that you'd be able to strap it down

What I can't seem to make drivers understand is it don't matter how many straps you use on the bottom layers only the securement that covers the entire load counts, I see drivers put five straps on each layer of a three tier load they think there covered because they used 15 straps.....but there not!!

We'll now I know how to secure it in the future and I thank all of you for answering my questions. The shipper provided instructions with how to secure the ac units and I mistakenly trusted them. I had it secured exactly the way the paper showed how to do it. I'm not blaming anyone but myself as I should of known how the WLL works with the way I had it setup. I'm teaching myself as I go and unfortunately I was put OOS with this lesson. You win some, you lose some.

I would of thrown a couple of what I would call "dummy straps" over the top, but not tight, "SNUG" to make it look good along with your chain securement. Done it many times and NEVER had a problem with it. Just a note for you also, all that extra chain you had on the side is going to draw attention, I always make my securements (chains, straps, rope, etc.) look neat. Its worth spending the extra time for that.

Actually, many van and reefer drivers make more than many flatbed drivers. Which begs the question, why have i been pulling flatbed for the better than 20 years? That's a question I've yet to answer.

cluck you don't use any straps at all on those particular units, in fact on the strap units there are specific points the straps go, and on those units in question, the binder has to be under the rub rail, if the shipper saw how they were in order for him to be let go, they would have a stroke. there are big posters up with instructions and I as I said they come out take pictures and veruify you have it just like they want it.
