I'm scheduled for training in Shippensburg PA 4/30. Ok...first orientation is 3 days. Then 120 hours with a trainer. Is that OTR or yard? And then, in USXs infinite wisdom, I'll be sent out with another newbie for 8 weeks of team driving. All the while, I'll be wondering if the other person can even drive (just like they'll be thinking about me).
And thanks to someone on another thread for the heads up about unemployment and getting notarized statements from at least 2 people who know I was looking for work.
Makes me a bit nervous and wondering if I'm making right decision???
So Let Me Get This Straight??

Yup, 3 days Orientation, , yup 120 hours with a trainer OTR, and then with a newbie for 8 weeks. USX wants their trucks to run max hours, and minimum pay to you. Wait till you both try and get home time, or better yet when you get to spend 2 to 3 days in the truck while your team mate takes his/her home time.

Thanks,HD. I hope my old man and my dog appreciate all these dang hoops I'm jumping thru just to be able to take them along!
There aren't many companies that will hire newbies and allow dogs.

Not to say I'm right, but my understanding of the NEW situation is that now students are going out with experienced drivers for 8 weeks, not another newbie......it seems to change every time you turn around.

I sure hope so! I really makes no sense to send out two people who don't know their you-know-whats from a hole in the ground. In this case...ME!

I don't know that it is that bad. You will both have a trainer for 120 hours btw and then you will bring that separate experience together for the eight weeks. Kinda nice having another newbie in the truck so you will not feel stupid all the time. You should also find yourself laughing at yourself or you are taking it all too seriously. I suspect that an experienced driver is going to tear down a lot of what your trainer instilled. This is a good company and most of the people you will meet here will bend over backwards to help you as long as you do not have a bad attitude.

Craig, you hit the nail right on the head. When I first heard about two newbies going out together, that was my thot....you both had different trainers, you both learned different things, so now you combine what you learned and then you continue to learn from each other.......I know my first weeks out by myself were downright scary at times and it would have been nice to have someone who might have learned something because I sure didn't learn much....but I don't like running team either...LOL

Thanks, y'all! Attitude IS everything. I never even thought about each of us bringing different things to the table and learning from each other. Shame on me for that! I do know how difficult it is to try to sleep when someone you don't really know is driving. Not really looking forward to those 8 weeks, but it is only 8 weeks. Then hopefully it won't be long before I can get my own truck and pick up my hubby and dog. And lots of searching the posts on here, too!

This 1000x.
My partner and i are both new to trucking. Let me tell ya... It feels nice not to have an experienced drive rolling his eyes when i try to back.i mean an experienced driver woikd be useful but to not feel eyes burning into you from the passenger seat is amazing. Plus we both laugh at each other for making silly mistakes, because either him or i have made it.
Keel your head up and learn as much as you can from your trainer. You'll need it. -
Two new drivers works as each has different expirences. It also helps to have someone to read the map as you search for shippers/ recievers. Great company so far.
