    I would for sure verify that before doing it. Also make sure you can live off the amount of unemployment you would get. Usually is only 55-60% of whatever you were making.

    Why? You can haul dry and temp controlled loads. I see only more miles with reefer

    I don't think that would be a good choice for my circumstances. Plus, I don't think that will work in Colorado.

    Most company sponsored training I've looked into was around a year. Now I've also read that even if I go to a private school and get my CDL that most companies won't touch me anyway. I will still need to get picked up by one of the major carriers and get a year under my belt before I can start looking for a better gig. So is it really worth paying for the CDL on my own? If I did could I reasonably expect to get a better paying job with a company that's not known for churn and burn with their drivers?

    Never heard one good thing about mega carriers.
    Unless, you have a recent felony or something, there are a lot of good companies that will hire you. Don't believe everything you read.
    I had been unemployed for 3 years, and got hired by WS 2 days after CDL school.

    Everyone's definition of "good company" is different.
    I know a few guys that went from CDL school to local tankers, and fuel.
    It can be done.

    Well I'm employable with good work history and nothing as far as criminal or driving history that would make me look less than desirable. I'm going to check into some of the mega carriers like Prime, Schneider, Jim Palmer just to get a feel for them and what they offer but I'll definitely look at the weekend schooling option so I can keep my current job until the right trucking job comes available.

    Company sponsored training usually is about 3 weeks classroom/ local driving then OTR with a trainer. Some companies such as Watkins-Shepard you're with a trainer for 10 days then on your own; that's plenty of time, you don't need a babysitter any longer than that.
    Jim Palmer Trucking you're with a trainer for "X" number of miles and same with Prime Inc.
    Attend a private school and dozens of companies will hire you such as:
    Watkins-Shepard (terminal in Denver)
    System Transport (terminal in Denver)
    Britton Transport
    Dairy Farmers of America (for Sage graduates)
    Western Dairy Transport
    Magnum Ltd.
    Abilene Motor Express
    Navajo Express (headquarters in Denver)
    Freymiller
    National Carriers
    and that's just a few of them.
