I had to have a cousin go into the county courthouse in east Texas to get mine a few years ago. Honestly since 911 and that patriot act real ID garbage everything like that has to have a signed seal on it or it won't be accepted.
-
Why dont you order a new birth certificate?
-
Original just means that its not a xerox copy
-
Call Uncle Barry and see if you can borrow his...
-
Don't know what hoops you have to jump through now, but the last ones we ordered were off the internet for about $21.00 each plus shipping cost. You would have to know vital information to do this, I believe your mother's maiden name, etc. some birth certificates don't have this info on them, so collect this before you do anything.
-
You can simply order a replacement of your birth certificate online. Or you can visit the vital records office in the state you were born. The online order will cost additional money but your birth certificate will be delivered to you in 3 to 4 business days.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

I do not know if all states have them, but the last time I got mine from Texas, I think they charged me another 10 bucks and I got a wallet sized one too.

That stays in the archives.
It really does not matter, there was a incident during war of 1812 when half the alphabet records by last name were burned by the British in DC when they invaded.
today's American Archival information is duplicated and sometimes stored offsite, electronically etc. There are companys that exist who trade in all records living and dead Americans since our Founding wherever possible including all of us alive today and our children.
Don't worry. Just go to your birth state, county or city archives and they will generate a copy capable of being treated as original. Im running off a copy I picked up when I was 14 in my safe. Arkansas did not mind having it as long that state seal is on there all my trucking life. Its coming out again for the real ID 2020 act license replacement.
Thats the other side of it. TSA requires 2020 compliant licensing so you will need a BC anyway by then to get it. October 1 2020 deadline. ANyone not having that or passport will be denied flying and federal buildings. Essentially second class citizens.
However for us State archives usually have that kind of birth record. The reason I say usually is because when you go back beyond say 1890 birth records begin to be kept in courthouses at the county or in family bibles the further back you go. Some courts were burned with their records during Civil War and other conflicts in history.
If you were to examine the new Gaggle system imposed on school kids, their records will be permanent all their lives and may influence their freedoms if any. -
I went to vital statics I think it's called in my city. Don't remember the cost.
Thought about the online service but didn't want to risk a non legit cert.
- County clerk I don't think will have them. Not ours anyways.
