Why do so many OO’s cry about rates?

So blame Trump for not including English fluency as part of ELDT.bryan21384 Thanks this.

He bases not being able to speak English just by someone’s funny sounding name.
Or the one recently in Texas where one person died and the media didn’t list the drivers name. Ignoring Texas law that unless guilt is admitted they can’t legally list the names.
Then the big accident in Austin where again the funny sounding name means that they don’t speak English yet was proven that he was able to communicate in English.Vega95, bryan21384 and gentleroger Thank this. -
Or all the H-2b visas given out to the trucking industry this year so far
bryan21384 and gentleroger Thank this. -
A single stoke of a pen in 1980 has gotten us where we are today. And we’re far beyond the point of being able to get the genie back in the bottle. Seems like astronomical insurance rates for new authority isn’t even enough to raise the barrier of entry.
And it doesn’t matter the industry, if someone can lower their labor costs they get a leg up on the competition. Not to mention the companies running an ELD with “tech support” overseas.
And it’s not just OTR stuff, there are people who bring South Africans over to work on their farm or in their feedlot and they get put in a truck for the 9 months they’re over here. The states dictate the hourly rate they’re supposed to get and they’re supposed to track hours in each state but most just pay a higher rate to keep the employees happy. For example South Dakota is $19 something an hour but if the boss pays $25 they won’t say anything about getting ran all over the country. If you have them running 25k miles a month when it’s busy at $25 an hour that will lower your labor cost $6-7k a month over the guy paying 25% of gross. But the South Africans don’t say a word because $3k+ a week is more money than they’ve ever seen before.bryan21384, gentleroger, hope not dumb twucker and 2 others Thank this. -
What happened in 1980?

Wasn't political in my book lol, but that was good ####.Concorde Thanks this.

Exactly. It just seems like it's more to folks who really don't want them here. It's probably not even 5k of those visas being issued to foreigners going to trucking. We never talk about those ambitious, anti-social prospective drivers that glorify the industry. You know, those ones that post on Instagram and drive at the same time. How about all those on Bonehead Truckers trying to film a truck turned over just to get material on Ike Stephens's channel, with no compensation? How is that not a dialogue about safety? He's part of the foreigner hate problem though, yet drivers are about to have a rollover just to get their #### on YouTube. CrazyConcorde Thanks this.
