This whole thing is just another poorly-thought out solution based upon "scientific studies", taking nothing variable into account, just as Bayle pointed out above.
Heck, I broke the 14 rule Friday afternoon. 8 miles from my planned break location, excessive traffic and road construction stopped us cold. I had 30 minutes left when we stopped, and ended up going about 20 minutes over my 14.
Oh-friggin'-well. Averaging about the pace of a brisk walk on a summer day, I doubt I was a threat to public safety. Oh, I could have just shut 'er down in the hammer lane (the only one open), but that might have caused, shall I say, a bit of consternation amongst the populace, many of whom do not care for us already.
The whole #### thing is becoming such a joke. Plug the numbers into a matrix and PRESTO! Instant answers from your Federal Gooberment.
Ever get the idea this thing really pisses me the hell off?DrtyDiesel, Bayle and fisher guy Thank this. -
Wait, you mean some drivers actually drive more than 8 hours a day?

Waiting to fuel is break... fueling itself is on duty...
I am not happy with it because although I have generally taken 30 minutes by me 8th hour anyway... it is usually done in either 3 10 minute or two 15 minute breaks. I wish we could just combine them. 30 minutes total off duty before 8 on...
That would be too easy though.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
So I am just wondering if I take two 30 minute breaks can I then drive for 22 hours in a 14 hour period?

I run flatbed with almost all our customers being 7am-4pm M-F people. I came out of the house tuesday, sitting here doing a reset before the new rules kick in. After that its once a week which will hurt me and then the two periods of 1-5 will be tricky.
Ive worked it out like this, If you shutdown for your 34 between 7pm and 1am, you can take exactly 34 hours off. Shutdown before 7pm or after 1am and you're going to be taking a 35+ hour break.
For example, Shutdown at 6pm, you'll need to take a 35 hour break. Shutdown at 2am, you'll need a 51 hour break. It's just plain crazy. -
Crossroads, southpaw2153 and 48Packard Thank this.

I am just glad I am switching carriers and will be back on paper logs, I usually only take a 20 minute lunch break and hated having to sit and watch the Qualcom till the 30 minute break was over.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this.
